We were lucky to catch up with Vitalii Hutsuliak recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vitalii, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
The question of whether I’m happier as a creative professional or if I sometimes think about having a regular job is both interesting and familiar to me. A few years ago, I worked at a regular company with the typical 9-to-5 schedule, a stable salary, and the usual office routine. It was a job that provided a certain level of stability, but there was always a feeling that something was missing. I fully understand what it’s like to work in a corporate environment, to follow strict rules and requirements.
Now that I’m immersed in creativity, the feeling is completely different. My work gives me freedom—the ability to express myself through photo retouching and other visual projects. This space for self-expression, where I can create something unique that reflects my style and vision, makes every day special.
I remember a moment a few months ago when I was working on a large photo project. It was late at night, and I felt exhausted but happy. At that moment, the thought crossed my mind about what it would be like to have a regular job again, to return to clear boundaries and a stable schedule. But immediately I remembered that back then, despite all the stability, I was missing this very thing—the sense of creative freedom, the ability to be flexible and independent in my work.
My current job is not just a profession, it’s a way of life, where I grow, develop, and create every day. And while I understand the advantages of a regular job, my current work brings me much more satisfaction and a sense of harmony.
The main insight for me is that happiness looks different for everyone. For some, it’s stability and predictability, but for me, it’s the ability to create, be inspired by new projects, and move forward, even if the path is sometimes unpredictable. I’ve realized that even the challenging moments in creativity are more fulfilling than any regular office workday.

Vitalii, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a professional photo retoucher with extensive experience in photography, having over 10 years of work in wedding and family photography. My journey into retouching began when I realized how much I enjoyed not only capturing moments but also enhancing them. After years of working as a photographer, I decided to transition into retouching, where I could further channel my passion for detail and creativity.
I specialize in retouching wedding, portrait, lifestyle, high-end beauty, and fashion photography. My work involves color correction, frequency separation techniques, Dodge & Burn, as well as photo manipulation to create visually captivating images. The services I provide help my clients bring their visions to life, whether it’s improving details, correcting skin tones, or transforming raw shots into polished artistic works. One of the hallmarks of my approach is the effort to preserve the natural, authentic look of images while achieving flawless results.
What sets me apart from others is my understanding of both the technical and artistic sides of photography and retouching. As a former photographer, I deeply understand how important it is to capture the emotion and atmosphere of a shot. I approach each project with the intention of enhancing the original vision without altering it beyond recognition. My goal is to highlight the best in the images without losing their essence.
I take pride in the fact that my works have frequently appeared in the portfolios of well-known brands and publications. The feeling of seeing your work become part of a major campaign or helping a brand look its best brings incredible satisfaction. It’s often challenging, but the results exceed expectations.
My clients often reach out with the need to quickly and efficiently prepare images for publication. I fully understand the importance of deadlines and quality, so I always strive not only to complete the work on time but to exceed expectations.
One of the things I am most proud of is the trust and long-term relationships I’ve built with my clients. Many of them return time and time again for new projects, knowing they can rely on me in any situation. Seeing my work become part of major campaigns or helping brands look better brings immense fulfillment.
For me, it’s not just about retouching photos, but about conveying emotions. I believe that every photo is a story, and my job is to reveal it through the right approach to details.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am driven by the idea that visual storytelling has the power to evoke emotions and create connections. Whether it’s a wedding photo that captures the intimacy of a moment or a fashion image that conveys elegance and style, I strive to create works that resonate with viewers on both a personal and aesthetic level.
Another important aspect of my mission is to provide clients with results that not only meet their expectations but also exceed them.
Ultimately, my goal is to continually grow as an artist and push the boundaries of what can be achieved in the world of photo retouching. I want my work to inspire, to move, and to leave a lasting impact on those who experience it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the greatest reward in being an artist is the opportunity to work with people and create something truly beautiful. Every client and their new photoshoot is a unique story that I have the honor of experiencing with them. I enjoy the process of communication, exchanging ideas, and interacting with people, as it always brings something new and interesting to my work.
Each project gives me the chance to express my creativity and enhance the emotional aspect of the images. I take pleasure in highlighting the beauty that already exists. It is incredibly rewarding when I can create an image that evokes emotions and leaves a mark in people’s hearts.
Moreover, it is important for me to feel that my work has a positive impact on the lives of others. When clients receive their images and see their stories come to life, it brings me great joy. The feeling that I help people preserve the important moments of their lives is one of the most valuable aspects of my profession.
