We were lucky to catch up with Viridiana Rosas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Viridiana, appreciate you joining us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
COVID-19 was a challenge for many, but it taught us to be adaptable. Our cleaning business was lucky to be essential, so we could keep serving clients. We got more business during the pandemic because of our reputation for top-quality service. To ensure the safety of our clients and employees, we implemented new cleaning protocols, including the use of electrostatic cleaning with EPA approved disinfectants and have made them a part of our regular cleaning routine. We take pride in the fact that we have been able to adapt and continue serving our clients with the same level of quality service, even during these challenging times.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and completed most of my education there. My parents have frequently travelled between the US and Mexico, and during one such trip, I decided to stay with my brothers in the Bay Area. After that, I moved to San Diego with other family members and that’s where I met my husband and started my own family. My professional background included experience in hospitality, business management, and retail. Meanwhile, my husband had experience in office cleaning. We decided to start our own business after discussing it, and that’s how we ventured into entrepreneurship.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
In 2008, we set up our own janitorial business and began advertising in the yellow pages to attract clients. We started with a few clients, but as demand grew, I left my job in the hospitality industry to focus on the cleaning business full-time. I started overseeing the cleaning jobs myself and hired others to help me. After my divorce, I took over the business completely and began advertising more aggressively. I signed up with a company as a subcontractor, and that helped me gain more clients in the retail area. Now, I supervise the job sites and it has become my full-time job.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
From my personal experience, I’ve learned that referrals and word of mouth are incredibly powerful tools when it comes to promoting your business. If you do a great job and take pride in your work, people will notice and appreciate it. This, in turn, makes them more likely to refer you to their loved ones, friends, and colleagues. It’s important to remember that you’re not just selling a product or service, you’re building relationships and trust with your clients. By focusing on delivering exceptional service and cultivating a positive reputation, you can create meaningful connections with your clients and their networks.
