We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Virginia Carter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Virginia below.
Alright, Virginia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
At Sweet Tango, we’re all about mixing the elegance of dance with the delight of self-care. It’s like creating a fantastic tango on your skin, and trust us, it’s a blast!
In tango, every move is like a well-rehearsed dance step, each one bringing joy and excitement. Similarly, we’ve choreographed our skincare brand to be an enjoyable journey for you. It’s all about adding that twist of fun and surprise to your self-care routine.
And let’s not forget about the tango partner! In tango, it’s all about the connection, the chemistry, and the shared enthusiasm. At Sweet Tango, we’re not just passionate about making you look and feel fabulous; we’re excited to be your beauty partner in crime.
We’ve got the Brazilian spirit, the warmth of the Latino vibe, and a dash of humor. It’s like dancing a tango with a grin on your face. Because when you’re having fun, that’s when the real magic happens.
Now, let’s talk about the twist that gave birth to the name “Sweet Tango.” Back in Brazil, I used to pass by a business named “Samba Tango” every day when my dad took me to school. And like clockwork, I’d declare to whoever was in the car with me, “When I grow up and have my own business, SAMBA TANGO is going to be the name of it”. One day, my dad questioned me: ”Virginia, do you know you cannot copy their business name? You will need a different name.”
Oh boy, that made me think nonstop; my mind was all in it, and I was quiet for about four days. After thinking of a solution for that ”problem” that I had to solve for my future, I finally got an answer from my dad. haha I told him: ”You know what, I wouldn’t want to keep Samba anyways. My business name will be DOCE (sweet in Portuguese) TANGO. Curious, my dad asked me: “Why did you decide to keep Tango instead of Samba’?”
My answer was as sweet and delicate as the tango itself. “Samba is danced alone, but tango, you need a partner. It’s a dance of connection, where the moves are sweet for who is dancing and a delight for everyone watching.” My dad was speechless; he got all emotional and told every one of his friends/family members the story. Back then, I thought my dad was so lame; what was so interesting about my thought? Now, looking back, I honestly think to myself, ‘Damn Virginia, what a genius kid you were!’ hahaha
Fast forward to today, and that childhood promise has become a reality. “Sweet Tango” became the name of my business. It’s more than just a memory; it’s a symbol of partnership, connection, and the shared joy of every step in the tango of life.
It stands strong with my belief that success is never achieved alone and that life’s journey is meant to be shared. Samba does not represent what I want my brand to be. I’ve never danced alone; I’ve always had amazing people dancing with me and teaching me new moves. In the tango, every step is a partnership, and those watching become part of the dance. It’s a contagious, sweet vibe sweeps everyone up in its rhythm.
At Sweet Tango, we embrace the Brazilian and Latino spirits and the warmth of caring for others. We’re here to invite you to dance the most beautiful tango—the dance of self-care, self-love, and confidence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The fact I couldn’t speak the language when I first moved to the US. It took me a while to understand what people were saying and even longer to put sentences together and communicate. I felt very discouraged, uninteresting, dumb, and judged.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Absolutely!
