Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vinny Montague. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vinny, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I discovered that I have a passion for songwriting, producing, and performing and my parents have jumped right on board with this artistic journey. I have told them that this is what I want to do more than anything. I never hear, “But what will you do for a REAL job?” They know this is the only thing I want to do. I don’t want it as a side hustle. It probably helps that my Dad is a working musician, and my Mum used to be a Music Therapist. They know what it means to follow your passion and dreams. I know they will be there every step of the way, either helping me carry my equipment or cheering me on from the audience. My Mum is the first person I play my songs for before I release them. She always asks, “Do you want compliments, critique, or both?” I value their opinions, but most importantly, I appreciate their support. They are “CAN” people, and not “You might not make it, so try something else” people. Not every person is that fortunate, so I am forever grateful.
Vinny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My early memories all include music in one form or another. My Mum and Dad are musicians, so it’s never quiet in our house! There has always been singing, piano playing, guitar–you name it! I started my musical journey officially when I was 3 years old because I had to be in my Mum’s choir, with my Dad as the accompanist. There was no babysitter, so there I was! That’s when I learned that I loved singing, especially in front of an audience! My journey took me through many professional theatre experiences in Atlanta where I learned so much from working with incredibly talented people. Then COVID shut theatre down, which led me to where I am today– writing, producing, and performing. I recently gave a solo performance at Academy Theatre in Hapeville. It was an amazing experience, and I loved the whole process. It was the first time I had performed as a soloist with no costumes and no other people. Up until then, I had only done theatre and choir, where you have people surrounding you and supporting you. This time, I had the crowd’s support and I fed off their energy!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Above all, my goal is to write, produce, and perform full-time. I have big dreams, I know. But I also know that if I don’t try, I will always wonder…
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love it when someone hears something I’ve written and tells me it spoke to them or inspired them and that it was something they needed to hear. I love sharing my music and hope to always reach and inspire people. Performing is a very close second! I love having an audience!
