We recently connected with Vindeira Resaul-maraj and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Vindeira thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Five years ago, my children were facing significant health issues, and I had my own as well. However, as a parent, my priority was always my kids. I had learned to “manage” my own health problems, but I didn’t want my young children to struggle. My journey began when we visited a pediatrician, where I felt gaslit into thinking that my parenting skills were the problem instead of recognizing that my child might have food allergies. That visit was the last straw for me. I decided to take matters into my own hands.
After extensive research through various Facebook groups, blogs, and websites, I came across the suggestion to try an elimination diet that removed gluten, dairy, and food dyes. I implemented this diet, and within just one week, I noticed a remarkable improvement. I was amazed by the difference it made. This led me to further investigate root cause medicine, the concept of using food as medicine, and the hidden food sensitivities and intolerances that could be causing numerous health and behavioral issues.
During this time, I consulted with an immunologist who conducted all the standard tests—blood work and skin prick tests. The results showed that both of my children had several allergies, which warranted the need for an EpiPen. This affirmed that my initial pediatrician had been wrong and that my maternal instincts were spot on. We also met with a functional medicine pediatrician who recommended removing certain foods for a few months, followed by gradual reintroduction along with supplements, with the expectation that this would lead to healing.
Though each consultation with the immunologist and the functional medicine pediatrician provided valuable insights, there was a noticeable lack of support. No one offered guidance on how to maintain proper nutrition during the elimination diet, how to reintroduce foods, or what to monitor for. I wasn’t informed about the Bristol Stool Chart and how crucial it is to maintain daily, well-formed stools, among other essential details such as sleep optimization, and stress management.
This gap in support is what inspired me to create BioIndividual Health and Wellness. Recognizing the shortcomings in the healthcare field and wanting to bridge that gap, I opened my telehealth business in October 2022. With over 15 years of combined healthcare knowledge and experience, my goal is to provide support, resources, and expertise in functional medicine and functional nutrition. I aim to empower parents to take charge of their health and the health of their children.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since I was a young girl, I always knew I wanted to help people, but I just did not know how. It was not until I turned 19 and began working in a level 1 emergency room trauma center in New York that I realized nursing was my true calling. Since then, I have worked my way up the healthcare ladder, serving as a certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, licensed practical nurse, and, finally, a registered nurse.
My journey into functional nurse health coaching began with my personal experiences, coupled with a desire to share my knowledge, resources, and support with others.
I offer several services, including one-on-one health coaching and group coaching courses. My one-on-one services consist of a comprehensive health assessment, health and wellness promotion, chronic disease management, medication and supplement reviews, lab reviews, patient education, and more. My business focuses on six key pillars to help clients reach their health potential: nutrition, stress management, detoxification, exercise/movement, sleep optimization, and emotional well-being. I provide weekly support, motivation, and resources to my clients.
Currently, I am offering a 7-week online live group coaching course called Nourish and Thrive: Clean Eating for Wellness. Each week covers a new topic, including gut health, weight loss, sleep optimization, and more.
The challenges I help my clients address vary depending on their goals. Some are looking to ensure their health is on the right track, while others seek to manage chronic diseases through small, daily changes. Others wish to understand how food impacts their health, both physically and mentally, and work on changes that help prevent disease. Regardless of their stage in life, my clients want to achieve better health, and I am here to support them.
What sets me apart from others is my personal experience. I actively work on my health and my children’s health every day. Health is dynamic, influenced by various factors—not just food, but also stress (both positive and negative), the environment, and life circumstances. It is crucial to understand your body and what it needs to thrive, especially during challenging times.
I take great pride in being a board-certified functional nurse health coach and in launching BioIndividual Health and Wellness. I am excited to bridge the gap between medical appointments by providing continuous support and care for patients between their scheduled visits with healthcare providers. I offer resources such as educational materials, lifestyle and nutrition guidance, coaching, and regular check-ins to keep patients accountable and empowered.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back, I would definitely choose the same profession: nursing. I love being a nurse because there are so many different paths one can take within the field. There is an abundance of knowledge to acquire in various specialties—such as cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, and immunology. The human body is incredibly fascinating; it is resilient and capable of amazing healing, and I am continually amazed by how everything is interconnected.
As a nurse, I have the privilege of being part of this process, whether it is providing direct care, educating patients, or supporting them through challenging times. What I find most rewarding is the opportunity to make a genuine difference in someone’s life—whether that involves helping them recover from an illness, managing a chronic condition, or simply offering comfort and reassurance when they need it most. The variety, continuous learning, and ability to positively impact lives is what makes nursing such a fulfilling career for me.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In addition to the necessary training and expertise, I believe that compassion is essential for success in the healthcare field. Building a strong rapport with clients and patients goes beyond simply providing care; it involves genuinely listening, empathizing with their experiences, and demonstrating a true concern for their well-being. Often, you may be the only person available to listen to their most vulnerable and frightening concerns. Being present, compassionate, and understanding not only fosters trust but also creates a healing environment where patients feel supported, heard, and valued. This connection is crucial for delivering the best possible care and helping individuals on their path to better health.
