Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vincent Sliva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Vincent, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Music production requires a mix of creativity and technical skills. Faithfully translating what you hear in your head to the audio format, with all of it’s limitations, takes a practical and applied knowledge. The creative component helps guide the direction of all decisions, and acts as the final editorial voice. Both are necessary to present a song it’s best light, and both require practice to sharpen.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As an artist and remixer, I have been releasing music under the name LehtMoJoe. Full length like albums “Spaghetti Western”, “Ailse7” and “#nofilter” explore Electronic soundscapes with a Pop sensibility, while the companion EP ” Ride On”, incorporates a bluesier edge. More recently have been releasing singles, which have seen placements on several network and streaming shows. I have collaborated with artists such as Röyksopp, 311, Major Lazer, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and others with official remixes, and have a well-received catalog of unofficial releases for Nirvana, Common, Michael Jackson, and many others, including a mild obsession reworking Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime in unconventional ways. Most of my work can be found searching LehtMoJoe on Spotify and YouTube.
As a producer, my work has covered all genres with independent artists, as has my efforts as a mixer. Additionally, I have contributed music and sound cues to popular shows and films including, Catfish, Scream Queens, The Enfield Poltergeist, Firefly Lane, and many others.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Music education and appreciation has long been the victim of budget cuts in the public school system, a renewed effort to invest resources into fine arts would go a long way into making a more well-rounded student, and potentially influence society that values art beyond nonchalant consumption on the individual level, and undervalued commodity in the marketplace.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When an idea starts to take shape. Something that didn’t exist before, now does. How cool is that?
