We recently connected with Vincent Richmond and have shared our conversation below.
Vincent, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The time it fully sank in that I wanted to pursue acting as a profession was after doing my first show in college at CSU Dominguez Hills. I had gotten my first real taste for acting on stage in 2014 when we had done a production of In the Red and Brown Water. Even though it was just an ensemble role, I had already felt the drive to keep going from the immediate audience reaction to even the slight character work I was part of and the thrill of being in the spotlight.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m born and raised in San Diego. I grew up around wrestling my entire life so naturally, that’s the path I took in my life until I graduated high school. After I had finished my senior season, I decided that I wanted to go through a different path in college and in life. In the time where I was applying for college, I had the tough decision about what I wanted to study and the thought of acting came into mind because I had grown up always reciting lines from my favorites like Pulp Fiction, Rush Hour, and Hitch.
I also wondered how the actors prepare and bring the characters to life. This led me looking into studying theatre because I wanted to start from the roots and build my way into learning from the craft that started it all. Little did I know that I was going to find a new passion from theatre when I went to CSU Dominguez Hills.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are quite a few rewarding aspects of being an actor but the one that I feel is the most rewarding is seeing the audience relate and being invested in a character or the story. Throughout my life that has always been my favorite part as a viewer because I feel understood and the character’s journey is always so fun to follow.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think something gets misunderstood is that the work is “easy”. There’s so many times that the work behind-the-scenes is not seen and it might not be appreciated how the efforts the cast and crew puts in in order to have a well-told and engaging piece or performance is put together for the audiences to enjoy. There’s alot quite a bit of emotion toll that the cast and direction puts in to their work (whether it’s even a comedy being worked on) because there’s always a bit of them put in the characters or the story.
