We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vincent Peterson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vincent, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Story behind the mission…Born and raised in New York, all of my life, all I knew was the importance of working hard and having a good work ethic. Growing up as part of the lower middle class, life wasn’t easy. My upbringing was rough as my family constantly moved from place to place. We didn’t have everything but yet we had enough to have a decent livelihood. Although I’ve been working since the age of 14, basketball was always my passion. At 18 years of age, I decided to take basketball serious and by the age of 22 I played semi- professional basketball. At the age of 24 going on 25, I played in two overseas showcases, one in Belek City, Turkey and the other in Chihuahua, Mexico. Through out those years I was a restaurant server and realized that I was a people person so a few years ago, I took my talents to the real estate industry. I am currently a licensed realtor in both North and South Carolina and I am in the process of obtaining my life insurance license. I am currently married to my beautiful wife, and on December 11, I became a new father to a handsome young son. My mission is to create generational wealth for me and my family, and to also spread the knowledge/ resources I have to help others as well. I am a youth leader at Refuge Temple Church in Columbia,SC where I help provide guidance to the local young people of the church and the surrounding community. In 1 Timothy 4:16 KJV “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Vincent, a born and raised New Yorker who lived in Queens, Harlem and Long Island. My whole life I worked in commissioned based sales. When I relocated to South Carolina I decided I needed a change and a more lucrative way of helping people. I decided to go into the multimillion dollar industry of real estate. I got my license first in South Carolina and than got dual licensed in North Carolina. Being a realtor isn’t hard but it requires a lot of work, especially starting off. As a realtor, I like to consider myself as an advisor. I always have my clients best interest at heart, always making sure that my clients will have the best services whether it be dry wall, inspection, loan officer, roofer, etc.. I use all my connections whether it be in the Carolinas or out of state to best assist families everywhere.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Real Estate when first starting off isn’t hard but it requires a lot of hard work. It also isn’t cheap. Their are free ways to lead generate using family, friends, and now social media. So what I did to fund my real estate career is by working in a restaurant as a server. Extremely flexible schedule and it is also a great way to have conversations with you customers about your business even at the end of their dinner leaving your business card with them.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The best way to keep in touch with clients is always give them a call once in a while. Once you’ve helped them with one of the biggest investments in their life its a good business practice to be that helping hand for them when they need excess services like HVAC, roofers, lawn maintenance, etc… Sending them post cards on the holidays and holding client appreciation events once every quarter.
