We were lucky to catch up with Vincent Madero recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vincent, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Based on how you choose to measure it, I think success can look different for everyone. For me it’s being able to provide for myself while not feeling like my entire life is devoted to working non-stop. To be successful in this sense I know that being open-minded, communicative, flexible with my time, and impeccable with my word keeps me in the good graces of my clients. To keep me within the good graces of myself I workout, research things I’m interested in, volunteer, and indulge in my favorite foods. It’s a good life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up on a farm in Ohio. Then I moved to New York City when I was 21. I really got in to theatre and photography while I was there, but when theatre took off–photography took a back seat. Acting took me out to Los Angeles next, and while I was busy auditioning and taking classes and workshops I realized something was missing in my life. I didn’t have the sort of immediate creative satisfaction I needed. Then one day, when I was literally building furniture in my studio apartment, a friend asked if I could help her film a wedding. I said yes immediately. Once I got behind the camera again I knew that’s where I wanted to be.
Since then I’ve worked as a freelance photographer in many different niches. I’ve shot test shoots for models at Ford Models NY, STATE MGMT, and AMR; Runway for LAFW and Art Hearts; Food Photography for restaurants in Hollywood and Beverly Hills; Event Photography for DVR Productions; I shoot a lot of Headshots for Actors and Executives; and I’ve worked alongside marketing agencies like The Very Creative Firm (LA) and The Wilderness Agency (OH).
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients for me are referrals from existing clients.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFT’s have potential to be very useful, especially for simplifying transactions. But, I don’t think NFT’s as collectibles are sustainable outside of play-to-earn gaming. At least not yet. It’ll be interesting to see how they evolve.
