We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vincent Finney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vincent below.
Vincent, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents always instilled into my that hard work will be your salvation & to always put things into perspective. Life can be easier when you put in the hardwork & focus on the goal above anything else that can knock you off your path.
They also taught me to do things with love & treat people right. Everyone deserves respect & if we all treated each other with a certain level of respect, the world would be so much better
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Vincent “Vinnie-Dangerous” Finney. I’m a rapper, podcaster & producer from Fayetteville, NC. I started writing songs when I was 7 after listening to hip-hop albums like 2pac’s “Me Against The World”, Biggie’s “Ready To Die” & GZA “Liquid Swords”. My parents were both artists (Mother, a poet & my father a rapper) and I grew up in a house always playing music but I didn’t start writing my own lyrics until my 3rd grade writing teacher gave me the class a writing assignment to write a poem. My poem was about a black cat and i used it as a metaphor for how I was feeling. I won the poem contest in the class and it inspired me to keep writing about how I feel which eventually changed from poems to rap music after listening to 2pac (another poet turned rapper) at the time.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
A big thing that helped my reputation is that I’m big on authenticity and follow through. Nothing about me or my brand is fabricated and I have been able to work with a lot of people just off the strong of word of mouth. I work with another artist or a show coordinator and make sure they get the professional they were expecting. I treat every opportunity with great respect and give my all. You can market yourself with a certain persona all you want, but if you can’t back it up, its all for nothing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I feel like I’ve built my audience with consistency. I post often and I always make sure its quality when I do. Quality to is defined by the messaging I’m putting across with every video, pic, post, etc. What’s on my feed & timelines needs to match the values that represent myself and my brand. People will respond to that and will follow up on your journey
