We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vincent Farone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vincent below.
Hi Vincent, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have ever worked on was probably documenting my high school classmate’s farm and family. This was my first photo project centered around real experience and documentation vs creating a narrative/constructing a scene. This project opened up the idea of using photography to document what I feel will have an impactful outcome-whether that’s for the people being photographed, the viewers of the work, or both. Seeing someone’s experience through the process of photography felt so powerful to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing this family’s farm and routine as an observer. Not only was the family able to personally cherish the imagery, but I was able to experience a very unique perspective. I was then able to share the imagery with viewers and allow them to peak into the world I experienced and hopefully allow them to have an important takeaway.

Vincent, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Vincent Farone. I am a 27 year old photographer & artist based in Brooklyn, New York. I started doing photography at age 12 in my rural Ohio hometown. At first it was just something I enjoyed to pass the time, but as classmates started needing family, pet, or personal portraits I began to offer my services. It was very quick in a small town to establish myself as “the local photographer” which helped a lot in the early stages of my work. I was able to be paid for my work while also learning new things with every shoot. Once I saw I could make money from doing what I enjoyed doing, I decided to move to a city where I could do it on a broader scale. I moved to New York City and quickly angled my work towards the fashion industry, specifically tapping into the modeling industry in NYC. I started doing test shoots and model digitals, which I still do to this day. I do professional headshots, creative shoots with models who need photographs for their portfolio, and my own personal art. I think what sets me apart from others is I provide quality images you don’t see everyday but at an affordable rate. I find that people trust me more when they know I am not overcharging them for my services. It is a great feeling to hear when my images help actors, models, or executives acquire new jobs. Hearing a positive effect is always a helpful motivator, but nothing feels better than creating personal work that feels important even if it isn’t seen by anyone else. I think the main thing I want people to know about my work is I’m always trying to empower who is being photographed with hopes to empower, inspire, or motivate the viewers as well.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The 5 Resets by Dr. Aditi Nerurkar. This book dramatically helped me manage my burnout and stress, which in turn allowed for more internal room to weigh and explore different projects. When the mind is overwhelmed it does not have enough room for play, and play is a crucial part of the artistic process.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media took off when I was regularly posting new work every week or two. I also tried to be featured on curated pages that I felt had a following that would connect with my work. Never be afraid of being annoying in order to get yourself out there. I can’t even tell you the amount of times a direct message got me a job.
