My name is Vincent de Sarthe, and I’m the owner and director of de Sarthe Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. My journey into the art world began at a young age, influenced by my father, Pascal de Sarthe, who has been in the art industry since 1977. Growing up in a family deeply embedded in the art scene, I developed a profound appreciation for diverse artistic expressions and a curiosity to explore different perspectives. This passion led me to open my own gallery, initially in Beijing, where I experienced the vibrant and innovative art scene, and later brought that energy to Scottsdale.

How I Got Into the Industry: Opening de Sarthe Gallery was a natural progression of my lifelong passion for art and a desire to create a space that fosters creativity and dialogue within the art community. My father has been a significant mentor throughout my career, and his guidance has been invaluable. The decision to establish the gallery in Scottsdale was driven by the dynamic art community here and the potential to contribute to its growth and evolution.

What I Am Most Proud Of

I am also proud of our role in elevating the profiles of local artists, giving them a platform to reach broader audiences.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

My cofounder/business partner is my wife, Gabby Usinger. We initially met in 2016 in Beijing. I had been there for several years at that point and she was in China for a summer internship. We initially bonded over our mutual love of art and photography. Years later we reconnected in New York and finally got our timing right. Covid initially brought us back to Scottsdale, the city I grew up in. However we decided to stay and open the gallery after seeing the city’s rapid growth and inspiring art scene.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

When I first started de Sarthe Gallery, I knew that social media would be a critical tool for reaching a broader audience and fostering a community around contemporary art. We immersed ourselves in the local art scene by joining boards, attending museum openings and events, supporting other galleries, connecting with local artists by setting up studio visits and in general, a lot of networking. We also partnered with and hosted events for other organizations and local influencers to build our brand awareness. When it comes to the content we share, we focus on authentic and high-quality content that resonates with our audience. This includes behind-the-scenes looks at the gallery, artist features, and sneak peeks of upcoming exhibitions. By giving followers a glimpse into the creative process and the stories behind the art, we created a deeper connection with our audience. We love to engage with our community online to discuss our current shows and to let them know about future events taking place at the gallery.
