We recently connected with Vince Morales and have shared our conversation below.
Vince, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As a professional Mixed Martial Artist since 2015, it’s rare to not see a fighter with a few hard learned lessons in their professional career. Our job is to learn, adapt, and turn potential career ending shortcomings, into markers of growth. None bigger than my 2020 loss to Chris Guiterrez in the UFC. The first fight in the legendary Apex building during the Covid times. An early skill issue was exploited by one of the best leg kickers in the game. I’ve never been the best at checking (blocking) leg kicks. After watching this fight, it’s easy to understand what I mean. The ref ended up stepping in, in the second round and saving my legs from any more damage. Rough lesson to learn. For the months following it gave me plenty of time to reflect on this. I remember thinking that, “If only there was some way I could have a timer randomly give me some sort of command to work my reflexes, I bet I could get this whole checking kicks thing down.” The first glimpse of React Workouts was born.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One thing most people dont know or understand about professional fighters is how we get paid. Sure we have the potential to make good money but it’s often paid to in one lump sum. That lump sum can basically be looked at as back pay for the work we put into training camp for the last few months, or whenever our last competition was. We also have to dish out money for taxes, management and coaching fees. If you’re not careful with money it can be gone rather quickly and we’re back to square one. I wish i would have learned earlier on that we need to develop of streams of revenue to have our best foot forward at all times. Another reason I thought building this app React Workouts was a great idea. I tend to stay on the busy side, I not only have my own full time training schedule, but I set time aside to train my own clients who want to get familiar with the martial arts themselves. Between those two and finding the time to meet with app developers on this app idea., the schedule stays full. Just the way I like it.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My own experience in training and in the cage is where I lean to on what can make this app successful. To shed a little more light on React Workouts, I’ve preloaded the app with a handful of “action commands” that users can select from. They set the number of rounds for their workouts, they select the round time, they choose one, two, three or even more commands for the rounds and select the intensity these commands come out each round. Whether they be offensive commands like punches and kicks, or defensive commands like blocking and checking. It’s all up to the user, they can work their reactions on whichever area they feel they need the improvement. React Workouts has the feeling of being built by fighters, for fighters, but still easy enough for beginners and the at home workouts goers to get acquainted with the sport.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I’ve started a discord channel that I’m hoping to use as a hub for all things React Workouts. Within that discord users will be able to talk to each other and me directly on any potential ideas or issues they have going forward. For premium and free members alike they’ll both have access to biweekly workouts I create myself within the app to keep everyone feeling sharp and myself involved with the direction this app goes. I want to remain hands on for the life of the projects and all potential versions going forward that are all taking into account each users individual experience the app.
