Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vince Falconer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vince, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
So, when I was in high school I decided to take a “Film as Literature” class where we were supposed to watch movies in class, then discuss how they compared to written mediums. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to take the class with the teacher that also had us make movies of our own, which wasn’t exactly in the class curriculum. This inspired me to pursue film school after high school. While I was in College, I had to take a photography elective, and I loved it! So, I kept going, I took more advanced photography and photoshop classes, and started to invest more into my gear and personal technique after school.
Something that I could have done to speed up the process was to stop being afraid of being myself. After college, I kept studying and learning the craft, but I was terrified to actually reach out to people and book clients. It was like I was there at the edge of a lake of creativity, but was afraid to jump in and immerse myself. Finally, this all came to a head in 2017 when I was going on vacation. For the most part, my gear was sitting in its bag in my closet, mostly never bothered. I decided to take my camera, and one lens with me to Austin Texas, and photograph everything. If I didn’t fall back in love with photography at the end of my trip, I would sell all of my gear and move on. My little plan worked because I was totally bat shit crazy in love with photography again, and that’s what inspired me to totally jump in.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always looked at the world differently. I try to see the beauty in everything and everyone. I think people are the most interesting beings on this planet. And that’s exactly why I prefer to photograph people. I love to capture personality. And that’s what I can do for you. I pride myself on not having one specific look, or photo method, but being able to capture exactly the look that you are looking for, which I think you can see in my work examples below.
I keep things simple, when the shoot is finished, I will upload the images onto a Dropbox and let you choose your favorites. when I edit those, they’re put onto another Dropbox folder and their yours to print to your liking.
The thing that I am most proud of is that I earned the opportunity to have my work shown at various photo galleries around the world through GuruShots.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I know that being in photos is a taxing event for some people so for me It’s seeing how happy my clients are when they see their photos and knowing that they got exactly what they wanted.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn to stop being in my own head and to let myself be free to be creative. I always struggled with myself identity. In school I was never part of any group, or clique for that matter. Instead I always jumped from group to group. What that translated to was never letting anyone know who I really was and being afraid to express myself. This kept going into college, then into adulthood. So, after college, I was afraid to start booking and shooting sessions. I was afraid of what my friends and family would think about it, or me. I was afraid of making people mad. And that’s why I know studied the craft from a book, instead of in practice from 2011- 2017. In 2017 I finally decided enough was enough and jumped in.
