We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vince aka. Big V Riha and Dave aka db Burzanko. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vince and below.
Hi Vince and Dave, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
We approach music production as connoisseurs and fans. Having come up in the music industry as it were, we witnessed a lot of short sighted, distasteful practices. These practices only benefited the businesses and not the artists, whose life and soul was in the work. We tell perspective clients “We don’t have a clock anywhere in the building”, this helps affirm our position on providing the best product we can without the constraints of the industry’s standard practice of charging by the hour. Being artists ourselves, we focus on the outcome and vision of the artist. We also provide an environment that fosters creativity and builds bonds with the artist and producers. One thing we miss in these modern times are liner notes, these were where we found our idols, and mentors. The artists music and lyrics are the body of the song but you need producer to capture and illustrate the soul.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Vince and Dave have both been in and around music and artists and producers most of their lives. These experiences are not something a person can learn in a book or an online video. Having differing backgrounds and points of view we are able to bring things to our clients that may not have been in their vision. On this lengthy journey we have worked along side the technological advancements of the industry. We offer our clients options! Options not just with gear but also techniques, styles, instrumentation, and other tricks we’ve learned along the way. One thing that sets us apart is our culture. A artist may come in as a client but more often leave as a friend and part of the Odd Block family. One such family member is Carson Hay, Carson came in as a vocalist on a clients project and the team took note of his dedication and talent. We then began to help Carson source musicians and build his inaugural ep. Its artists like Carson that keeps our love for the craft alive. We continue to do this with new and upcoming artists in the region. We are seeing a renaissance in the region with younger artists, who come to us for our wisdom. We are building a community of artists and producers that transcends genres, generation and generalizations. We focus and on the art and vision and the rest comes naturally.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Vince and Dave were both active in the regional music scene and cross paths once in a while. As time went on, Vince began to work at Mannequin Odd Productions with Steve Gang. While this was going on Dave was on his own journey founding and operating 40 Block Studios. During the pandemic due to economic changes the building that was housing 40 Block was sold and the new own did not extend a lease to Dave. When Vince found out Dave was looking for a new home to produce out of Vince and Steve with an offer Dave to join forces. From this Odd Block Entertainment was born.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Odd Block doesn’t have to look too hard for new clients, as we are fortunate enough to have our family. A family made up of past and present clients who are always willing to spread the word about us. We are grateful to our family for not only believing in our work but also our vision and culture. We are always willing to invite potential clients in for a meeting, attend a session or just a studio tour. We are proud of what we do and what we are offering the music community.
