Today we’d like to introduce you to Vina Murad
Hi Vina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Sweden to Kurdish immigrants and subsequently spent my teenage years in the UK. There I started to dream to one day study in Japan, but due to my family’s low income it felt out of reach. Even so, I worked tirelessly for 3 years in various part time jobs saving up desperately to move to Japan and eventually managed to go to a language school in Tokyo at the age of 19.
While I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I was posting outfit photos to instagram daily and due to my love of fashion I decided to attempt to enroll in Bunka fashion college. I managed to pass the exam and before I knew it I was studying fashion in Japan, supporting myself through my YouTube channel at the time documenting my time as a fashion student.
Then in March of 2022 I launched my brand Vina of the Valley and the rest is history!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were so many struggles along the way. Consistently working so hard to save up while I was a student definitely took a toll on me and many years later I was diagnosed with ADHD, which as I’m sure you can imagine didn’t help with this struggle at all. Not only that, but moving countries without financial assistance is a huge stress for many reasons, one of them being that if I start to fall behind on payments my status in the country is at stake. My mental health was in a poor state for many years due to the stress of it all.
We’ve been impressed with Vina of the Valley, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a fashion line offering ethically manufactured clothing inspired by both western fashion styles like cottagecore and coquette styles, as well as Japanese fashions like Larme kei and French girly. All our releases are now offered in sizes XXS-3XL! We believe any girl can be cute!
