We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vimi Glover a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vimi, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
During 2020, I decided to leave my 9-5 and enroll in an Academy as a “full specialist” student.
I had been working at a call center as a mortgage specialist. The job was stressful and underpaid for the task we had to do. I had been contemplating, months before we were sent home due to the COVID lockdown, about enrolling in the local beauty academy near me. After working from home for about three weeks, I decided I was going to take the leap of Faith, leave my corporate job, and enroll in the Academy.
I completed three months of my “full specialty” program until I found out I was pregnant. Bummed. I withdrew from the program due to the high risk of COVID-19, and to make sure I was taking proper precautions for myself and my baby.
After having my baby, I realized I am really passionate about beauty. Although I do not have my license yet, the state of Florida does not require you to have a license to perform makeup services. So I decided to start my own small business where I provide makeup services.
I currently run my own business and work at a local department store as a beauty consultant.
I do plan on reenrolling and completing my program in the near future.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into makeup and the Beauty industry by inspiration! Back in 2014, I would get my makeup applied by a professional MUA for just different events I would go to or just a night out. I was so impressed by the flawless application, I wanted to learn how to apply a flawless application the same. I began to watch YouTube videos to learn techniques and practice and apply makeup products on myself. As the years went by, I improved my application significantly! In fact, my makeup application improved so much, people began to inquire about me providing makeup application services on them. Once I discovered I was passionate about makeup application and realized I could make income as well, I began to pursue a career out if it.
I get clients who are insecure about their looks, but I want people to that beauty is deeper than the surface. To me, beauty is more about the mind, will, and intellect.
What I’m proud of the most is sticking to the script I set for myself. “Sticking to the script” for me means, no matter what obstacles in life are thrown your way, you have to keep pursuing the goals you set for yourself.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that just because the goal doesn’t quite look like what you pictured or imagined doesn’t mean it’s working out for you in the end.
About three years after COVID, I knew I had to go back into the corporate world because just providing makeup services wasn’t enough financially.
I ended up getting hired inside the beauty department inside a local department store. This position has allowed me to make more income, obtain new clients, and still do what I love!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I feel like the most rewarding part of being an artist and creative is that the time and dedication put in improving your craft, no one can take that from you!
