Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vimary Delvalle . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Vimary , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

I came up with the name of my business because I needed something that will identify me and the group of people that belongs to the island of Puerto Rico. Our name is inspired by a small tree frog indigenous of the island of Puerto Rico. Its song warms up the hearts of all Puerto Ricans.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I moved to Ohio in 2011 from Puerto Rico. My mother was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer which I have decided to move to helper during this process. While helping her I started working as a Home Health Aide for 10 years. I noticed at the time that most of the restaurants and bakeries are located in Cleveland or nearby, and not here in Akron.

Fun Fact is that I always loved cooking but I never tried baking. I started learned how to bake on my own. I also took some cake decorating classes at a craft store. This is when I started Vima’s Sweets Creations. In 2021 I decided to change the name from Vima’s Sweets Creations to Koqui Sweets, and started studying Chef Pastry through Escoffier. It’s been a process. I am not where I want to be yet but I am on the way!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

My initial capital to start my business was charging a deposit in order to cover the expenses of the order. I also used part of my hourly income.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele its been consistent.
