We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vik Lizardo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Vik thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project was my first one. Not because of the concept in the story or anything too deep in that sense but because it had such a positive impact on my life. I simply wanted to keep creating. I was 24 at the time and I had to present my senior capstone in college, it was a short film. The audience absolutely loved it and my favorite part was that I loved making this project and, at that moment I knew this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My art, is inspired by feelings. I want to entice emotion as well as capture emotion. I capsule that with angles, color palettes, symbols, sounds and aspects likethat. In high school, I learned about Frida Kahlo and that’s where this ideology came from. Seeing how she can capture her story in such a timeless matter is something I wish to conquer in life time and my work.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
We as humans are always evolving and advancing. I enjoy learning through social media so I decided to invest my time in LinkedIn. I like it because everyone there is somehow working on their entrepreneurial journey. I’ve gone to the extent of getting LinkedIn Premium and it was a wonderful decision. There’s insight and intel on trends and ways to better my work-life balance. It also provides me with LinkedIn Learning the app that teaches me things and I earn Certified Badges upon completing the course.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As we grow older sometimes our relationships with people change. Growing up, I remember people saying “no new friends” when things went wrong but now I would say keep your circle tight and do not limit your possibilities because of poor social decisions made growing up. I think it’s important to have valuable connections. People in the field that are advocating for you and your skills. How else would our name get mentioned in rooms? Relationships are everything nowadays and the way life works it just crosses paths, you don’t know who knows who. Treat everyone with respect as you would want it in return.
