We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Viinym. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Viinym below.
Viinym, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When I first started making music , I didn’t know anything really. My cousin , who was also into music , told me about an app called BandLab , where independent artist were able to creat music for free. I had to learn the app and navigate it on my own. It was incredibly challenging at first but I got the hang of it. My other cousin told me about distrokid, a website used to distribute music for a low cost. This helped me get my music on most platforms , like Apple Music , Spotify, iTunes, etc. The lyrics and flow always came natural to me . I used YouTube beats and then learned to put everything together .

Viinym, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an up and coming rapper originating out of Washington DC (born and raised baby). I’ve used my own experiences and things that I’ve seen in my neighborhood to create music that others can relate to. I use my music as a voice for the unheard. Soo many people go through crazy things and with my music I can tell someone’s story. People can relate to my music because we’ve been through and seen some of the same things. This makes my music different and it shows little kids that you can be more and you can be great.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn that it’s ok to ask for help and receive it. I’m more independent and I’ve been doing mostly everything on my own when it comes to my music. Especially since in society today no one seems genuine, or everything is “for profit.” Throughout this journey I’ve had to ask for help from others even if it was to share my posts to bring more traction and fans to my pages. I’ve had to accept help from the ones around me that knew I needed it and knew I was being stubborn , lol. I had to learn the hard way like going without , being stuck or pushing release dates back, etc. Overall , it’s ok to do things by yourself but it can be even better with help.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew about BandLab , Distrokid, CapCut, and Canva. These are all tools that I use to make my craft. If I have found out about these sooner, maybe I would be further in my career.
