We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vicy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vicy below.
Alright, Vicy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be apart of anything that had to do with music. At 15 years old, I wrote my first song. For the longest time I had writers block and would write songs here and there but would never complete them. It wasn’t until the end of 2021, when I wrote a song called Sippin’. I decided I didn’t want to sit on that song considering there were people that always asked when I was going to drop my first single. It was at this time where I knew that I wanted to start pursing music more professionally. At the beginning of 2022, I dropped my very first debut single Sippin’ and more writing and a plethora of opportunities have presented themselves since then.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Formally, my name is Trivicia, but my friends and family call me, Vicy. I grew up in a small town in East Texas which happens to be the Rose City capital (Tyler, Tx) From the time I was about 10 years old, I’ve sang in choirs from school to church and those moments are what has inevitably shaped me as an artist today. My mom has also played a pivotal role in my artistry. I watched her perform on countless stages effortlessly, admiring to do the same when I got older. She’s been one of the biggest supporters of my music journey thus far. To get to the point of being able to say that I’m an artist, took a big leap of faith. Especially as an independent artist, it’s a bit more challenging but well worth it. I have complete and total control over my sound and my overall artistic abilities. June of 2023, I decided it was time to display my talents globally so I decided to proceed with the process of putting my first music project together. Truth be told, from the very beginning, I knew what I wanted to name my first project, it was just a matter of putting all the musical and logistic pieces together.
Life is essentially what got me to the point of making music. The ups and downs and motions that we go through are a struggle sometimes. Fortunately, I found the greatest comfort in writing out and expressing my feelings through songs. During 2022, I experienced so much, that I ended up writing enough songs for an Extended Play which would become my debut project, “Something to Say.”
My biggest accomplishment through this entire journey thus far is hearing people say that they can play my music over and over. Music is so personal to me and “Something to Say” is best described as my open rhythmic diary. To know that people are still listening and that my songs that I have written through pure emotion is resonating with them, is a grand accomplishment for me.
Because I always write from pure emotions, my music will always be purely for the soul.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal and mission when it comes to the music is to ultimately write, arrange and sing background for local and major artists. I love connecting through music and being able to create with artists that are as passionate as me about the craft. If I could do that for the rest of my life and make a living doing so, that would most certainly be the life.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to unlearn during this journey is to stop thinking and simply just do it. I’ve always had these great musical ideas and would keep it to myself because of the fear of failure or pushback. I eventually got to the point where I just didn’t care about opinions and thoughts that weren’t contributing to my overall being as an artist. Once I decided to do for myself and not be persuaded by unnecessary opinions, “Something to Say” was born and has gotten a host of positive and promising feedback.
