We were lucky to catch up with Victoria Yap-Chung recently and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Navigating the world of writing children’s books was like climbing a steep hill for me. Initially, I submitted to agents and publishing houses, facing the challenge of waiting for responses that often took six months or more. Fueled by a story about a young girl triumphing over eczema, I realized I could either wait or take charge. So, I founded my own publishing company. The journey to execute my first book was a year-long process. I built a dedicated team, each member touched by eczema in some way. This personal connection ensured the story’s essence wasn’t lost in translation. Learning every aspect from distribution to marketing, from writing and editing to finding the right illustrator, was a daunting yet rewarding experience. Overcoming the obstacle of convincing other publishing houses to believe in the story and cause before myself was pivotal. It taught me the importance of belief, intention, and perseverance in achieving success.
Victoria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Creating my publishing company allowed me to break free from traditional timelines, ensuring that the stories I share are not only meaningful but delivered promptly. I take pride in not waiting for opportunities but creating them.
My inspiration comes from the transformative power of storytelling, focusing on the journey of underdogs and highlighting positive outcomes amid challenges. Through my work, I aim to convey that everyone, regardless of age, can overcome obstacles and live authentically.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Setting deadlines and catching up regularly keeps the team in sync and avoids any hiccups. Good communication is key – you want to avoid any mix-ups that could cause unnecessary delays. Recognizing individual talents and showing appreciation is important for maintaining high morale. Ultimately, fostering a culture of kindness within the team contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The truly gratifying aspect is showing not only my children but also anyone grappling with self-doubt that they have the potential to achieve anything. It’s all about harnessing the power of intention, understanding that where the mind goes, energy follows. This realization serves as a guiding principle, inspiring individuals to overcome obstacles and pursue their aspirations with confidence.
