We recently connected with Victoria Urso and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
For a few years, I was completely off social media. I was going through a period of time when I really wanted to focus on my relationships and found that social media was making it hard for me to be present. A couple months into that, COVID hit. As a way to maintain a sense of normalcy for myself, I got dressed for the day, every day. As far back as I can remember, I would and still do spend hours playing in my closet and styling my clothes. It puts me in my flow state and helps me escape from reality, be fully present, and gets the creative juices flowing.
When COVID restrictions loosened up, I was excited to start wearing my clothes out again. When I did, I was often getting stopped by people asking where my top is from, or what store I got my shoes from, or where I bought my skirt. My boyfriend experienced this enough times and encouraged me to start posting my outfits on social media. I was hesitant because I had been off it for so long and I didn’t know where to start. When I got into the groove, I felt like I had unlocked a new form of creativity for myself. I wasn’t taking myself too seriously and was allocating time to put towards it everyday. Although I still felt like there was a personal aspect of it that was missing. As much as I love styling clothes, I also love talking about them. Enter my idea for The Style Resort. A weekly newsletter that aims to cultivate an inviting and stylish ambiance to appeal to those seeking an inspiring and luxurious getaway (through vintage and secondhand fashion). I wanted to create an inviting space for readers to come to get style inspiration and shop my latest vintage and secondhand finds on the internet.
Like any new endeavor, there’s uncertainty. Doubts that would often come up for me were, will anyone care what I have to say? Are enough people interested in vintage and secondhand fashion? Will they find what I write interesting? All questions I knew the answers to but nevertheless would still pop into my head. Making sure to overcome my doubts, when I embarked on my journey to create The Style Resort I knew I had to be consistent. Any business venture takes time to build and gain traction and the only way you can do that is if you’re consistent with your work and maintain a positive mindset. You have to believe in you because you are you and no one else is you. Seeing social media become overwhelmed with trends, I wanted to make it my mission to advocate for personal style. Shopping vintage and secondhand makes it accessible to purchase unique pieces without breaking the bank all while finding what feels right to the buyer.
Acknowledging that shopping vintage and secondhand can be overwhelming for most people, I aim to use my experience as a vintage and secondhand shopper to scope the internet and find what’s worth buying and serve it on a silver platter in The Style Resort newsletter’s each week. My taste for style is innate and through doing market research I found I have a unique perspective to offer. That is, making vintage and secondhand shopping feel accessible while romanticizing the act of getting dressed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I live in Brooklyn, NY with my boyfriend and dog. I went to college for fashion and started working in the industry upon graduation. Growing up, my parents were never quick to buy my sister and I designer clothing so I had to get creative. Seeing what designers were putting out through magazines, I would take that inspiration and go to the local thrift stores to see what I could find. As I got older and refined my taste, I continued to scour new shops to see what unique pieces I could find. Getting dressed became a form of self expression especially when I felt like I didn’t fit in with my peers in school.
Through experimenting and spending hours shopping, I have been able to hone my skills as a stylist and vintage/secondhand shopper. With all the fast fashion brands that are out there and how quickly trends come and go, my goal is to help people realize their personal style and fall in love with their wardrobe with pieces that will stand the test of time. The Style Resort makes it easy for subscribers to shop vintage and secondhand pieces that are curated by me, a vintage and secondhand hunter who finds magic in collecting things that make life romantic.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission driving my creative journey is to inspire others to be themselves. We all have something unique and different to bring to the table and for me I express that through my sense of style. I’ve been lucky enough to have a family who has always encouraged following the road less traveled and I want to take that love and share it with others.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative is having the opportunity to tell a story through a creative medium. We all have different backgrounds, experiences, and hardships. Styling clothes helps me tell my story and styling others helps me help them tell their story. Through that I hope to encourage others to romanticize life like it’s a movie because it’s short so why not make the most of it.
