Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victoria Sueiro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Victoria, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Back in 2020, I found myself in a stage most of us faced upon the changing reality in the entire globe, a pandemic that enclosed all of us and froze time for the first time in history. That allowed our creative imagination to have a chance to spark something, an opportunity to begin what was so difficult before… our first ever and maybe only real break from social routine… a chance to do something different. Our only real chance for time freedom.
That’s when I began a cosmetics solution, integrating shower products, candles, and mineral oils for skin care: Victoria’s Solutions, a natural products brand for skin and self-care.
Time went by — Selling on Etsy — seasonal candles, bath bombs, and special mixtures of castor oil to grow, nourish and strenghten follicles.
This brand would face a major transformation and trajectory revision on early 2022 after many months of talks with my strategy ally, Thomas Ocovos, stripping down complex processes and completely rerouting the brand course, opting for simple minimal fashion, reducing and minimizing the product lineup, striving for clarity, purity and simplicity. That’s how Sueiro Co. was born, a fashion accessory brand, that once was thought to be a swimming suit line.
During our talks we conceptualized and considered a whole spectrum of variables, at one point we brainstormed the idea of a swimming suit line, however we knew how more common this types of brands are among small and influencer businesses, how complex they become on inventory management, shipping, return, hygiene standards, styles, etc, so we completely discarded the idea, for something more niche and less competitive: Hats and handbags.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Victoria Sueiro, I’m a second-generation Cuban-American. Unfortunately, I didn’t get exposed enough to the beauties, and cultural loads of the Spanish language to be able to completely understand it or speak it, nonetheless, I keep exposing myself to it as much as I can nowadays.
I founded Sueiro Co., a fashion design brand, focused on the first stage in functional fashion accessories: Hats — as a legacy, timeless solution to protect the skin from the sun, in a very natural, functional, and practical way. And bags, women’s major weakness, and temptation.
Sueiro Co. is a defiant manifesto of confident individuality, sensuality, simplicity, and elegance for everyone, challenging and contradicting the ruling new status quo and the contemporary ways of fashion in America, embracing a timeless, minimalist, international approach. Transcending borders, frontiers, challenges, and time.
It’s an offer and invitation to celebrate the values of courage, passion, simplicity, flexibility, inclusion, sobriety, functionality, and freedom of movement in a society hungry for modernity.
It’s the triumph of the avant-garde, the vanguard thinking, the alternative, the classic, the essential, the purity of form and function — the exquisite and good taste of life, underlining its subject’s radiance and s*x appeal.
Minimal enough and austere enough to highlight the importance of what matters, the individual: Your persona.
Is emblematic.
Suero Co. is a statement.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We have had a lot of challenges along the way, many very deep and personal. We are going through challenging and changing times. It’s not easy to begin a business in the middle of a highly volatile market like the one that we face today, so definitely we had to face major roadblocks — very serious ones — as you immerse and progress in adulthood you slowly begin to realize the true nature of reality, and learn very life-changing lessons. But after all, we survived and keep moving, because there’s always a little spark of light in the middle of the darkness, and there’s is always hope as you develop the will to pick your pieces up and stand up after you fall, crash and burn.
There’s always recovery after the darkest and deepest holes. So keep fighting, keep moving, keep walking. And foremost: Learn from your mistakes.
There are many untold stories, but believe me, we have seen a lot. Things that people wouldn’t see or wouldn’t even imagine, but they make us more understanding, wiser, real, grounded.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
We have also had a lot of comebacks, that sparked joy, happiness, great emotion, and high morale, where of course we had all odds against us, but is in the face of these challenges that we rise and thrive the most, is on the face of these challenges that we conquer and demonstrate to ourselves the amount of skill and capabilities that we have to build things, solve problems, and come up with brilliant, magnificent ideas, or quite simple ones that built a bigger broader picture.
One of our biggest and most unexpected marketing attempts came to be on April 2022, when we achieved to get our endeavors to the Austin Fashion Week Spring/Summer Runway, after months of detailed planning, strategy, and vast precise work deployment.
“We had the chance to work with the most beautiful, talented, and professional 7 models: Tatum Brooke, Tess Ellen, Keri Maria, Kiandra Jeane, Breajeé McMillian, Caroline Adams, Keira Gunn, Georgia Gentles, Josie lo, Jessamy Daniels and Kayla Blanc. Makeup artist Jasmine Cosmo. The fantastic behind-the-scenes work by Claire Saldana and the management and platform by Matt and Kara Swinney, and all the volunteers that helped us and participated in this fantastic event that brings the ideas and work of such talented and innovative designers.
We have many stories depicting our comebacks after very complex situations — hard-to-believe stories…
