Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victoria Sears. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Victoria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents gave me up for adoption to my grandparents. My grandmother gave me a strong belief in God that has helped me through out hardships in my teen and adulthood. My grandad poured wisdom into me throughout my life and made me feel safe. I also picked up my sense of style from him. My mom was in and out of my life due to substance abuse. My dad wasn’t in my life really. Some of the comedy I tell is based off true childhood stories. Being raised by my grandparents definitely had its stories.

Victoria , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a comic/actress/host/dancer born in Norfolk and raised in Chesapeake Virginia. I love the stage. It’s my biggest place of comfort. When it comes to comedy, I always tell people it came to me and not vice versa. I had people always ask me if I was one and I would brush it off. One, night I went to a what I thought was a comedy show which turned out to be a comedy open mic. I just decided to try it out. I went up and told some of my childhood stories and the crowd loved it. That night I got booked for a gig and have been getting booked every since.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
In the comedic market I believe my Gods blessings, personality, work ethic, and willingness to try something new built my reputation in the comedic world. I enjoy networking at shows, I’ve been told I have a great stage presence, and I am naturally funny. I had to learn how to recognize what I naturally was actually a gift that should be on stage.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I think being naturally funny, having a great stage presence, being a decent human being and investing in your own gifts is what is most helpful with succeeding in my field.
