Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victoria Pitts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always been in love with singing. My mother used to sing for me every time, during the chores, and for bedtime as well, she used to sing her lullabies.
She has a beautiful voice and she still sings in the church.
I also started to sing in the church.
But the first time I knew I wanted to pursue an artistic path professionally I was a teenager. I used to sing in a choir in Belém with the maestro Milton Monte, in the north of Brazil, in the middle of the Amazon.
I had an incredible teacher called Marcia Aliverti who encouraged me to continue my studies in another city to have more opportunities.
She told me that I had a strong voice with a rare timbre and she thought that I could have a career.
She spoke with my parents and convinced them that I should move. (I was just 17/18 years old- for my parents was so difficult to let me cross the land alone, to study in another city)
She came with me to take part in an opera course in the South of Brazil, in Curitiba, and there I started my bachelor’s, but only for a year.
In the meantime, an Italian Opera Masterclass took place in Curitiba (Luisa Giannini and Alessandro Sangiorgi) so I decided to audition for them.
I was accepted and they offered me a scholarship to come to Italy.
So I am here… I have been living in Italy for almost 13 years.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We should have a giant discipline to do this job!
Our schedules are crazy, there are months when you have so many performances and there are others when you don’t have any. So you have to keep your voice, your body, and your mind well.
I think that discipline is the key, to having a healthy routine: do sports, study languages, study new roles that you dream to sing.
When you are a young singer it’s almost impossible that an opera theater allows you to sing an important role. So you should study so much to be ready for a jump in.
I try to study as many languages as I can.
I got into the industry doing opera studios- Young artist programs in Europe and singing small roles.
I think it was a great school for me, I had the opportunity to be on stage with great artists from whom I learned so much.
It’s hard for a young singer I have to tell the truth.
I could say that we do what we can: studying hard the technique, staging, and having as many skills as we can, dance with you can do it.
Today I think also personality is essential to doing this job.
And last but not least: the money: financial education, you don’t have a “normal job” and if you don’t have a rich family, you should organize very well your outgoings.
“Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm”

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The opera world is driven by big agencies. It’s very hard for a young singer.
When I can I try to help my collegues.
Because I would like to listen to young beautiful voices and see great artists on the stage.
I believe in the power of art when music and harmonics of the voices touch your soul and give you a heaven peace in the middle of a crazy and war world.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
It would be wonderful to have simple people that just listen to you with true attention.
The most important thing in an opera house is when you have this incredible connection with the audience.
When you exchange great energy with the people.
When people are always with the cellphone in their hands it’s difficult to have true relationships.
It would be great to have a minute to live the real life/emotions with the people that are in front of you.
