We recently connected with Victoria Peters and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Building relationships with customers is everything. it is so important to get to know them on a personal level. We all have our own battles and showing each other compassion and that we care is everything. I have several customers that come see me every week, customers that bring their children and grandchildren, and I will do anything to go above and beyond for them. One of my best customers grandchild started selling beaded jewelry and she was so excited to tell me and share that with me, that me and several of my friends went and bought things from her.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Tye Dye By Tori started in San Diego California in 2020. One day I was just ,easing around with dye and I quickly realized I was actually very good at tie-dye and with my background in design, color combos came easily to me. We specialize in just about everything dyed and bleached, from home goods to apparel. All of our items are customized by hand, we believe color should be used in unconventional ways. We do just about anything custom, from shower curtains to shoes! One of my personal favorite things to do is custom dyed sneakers for fun events. My customers are so important to me, they welcome me fully into their lives. I have customers I see every week and I truly know their whole family. I am so proud of the brand I have created and the aesthetic behind it. We truly live for color, nostalgia, and everything extra!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When I started I had no idea what I was doing, truly clueless. I started out dying just for myself, I tried lots of dyes and types and before I started tie dying for others I knew exactly what worked for me and held results, Tie dye is tricky, all dye fades over time, you have to certain to soak and set each piece, you have to wash it a certain way, and when producing pieces that are ready to sell or custom, you have to be able to correctly replicate color and make sure it stays consistent. Everyone of my color concepts has a name and a recipe, this helps me keep dyes consistent for my customers. Well the pattern can never be the same, my consistent color stories help me maintain and build a customer following. Another thing is sourcing, I know where the majority of my garments are manufactured and I try my best to keep things ethically sourced. This helps our local economy and garment sustainability.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I try to always follow up with my customers, especially those with custom pieces. I love seeing how they style my pieces and getting feedback. I keep in mind what styles or color concepts they like and reach out to them when I dye new things they might be interested in.
