We recently connected with Victoria Magyar and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
My idea of working for myself and becoming a freelance worker in the digital world was one that came from an “A-ha” moment after grad school. Long story short, I started working as a school counselor in Tampa FL, hated it, moved back home to Ohio, didn’t know what to do and was depressed, started learning about spirituality and digital content creation, put all my eggs in one basket and took the risk of starting over in a career and lifestyle that I never thought I could manage until that point. That was in 2020 so the pandemic hit and tiktok was growing from everyone being at home-which was a great time for me to explore this new idea of being a self made creator and business owner. I created my own coaching business that helps people relax and find healing in their lives through reiki and 1×1 coaching sessions without the pressure or formality of let’s say clinical counselors ( absolutely love all mental health workers but they can be intimidating sometimes to those who need help ). So now 5 years later I have built up my social media through collaborations, networking, growing my “Slick Vick” community through my patreon, and combining all my passions in one to help people through entertainment, education, and compassion. It’s not making me rich in the financial sense at the moment, but it’s on its way! Still learning and growing every day!

Victoria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Vicki Magyar but my social media knows me by Slick Vick. I started creating on TikTok and Instagram in 2020 and grew my following to almost 1/2 a million followers on TikTok and around 76k on Instagram. I specialize in digital content creation, reels, and finding fun ways to create and connect with trends. I also started my own online business that provides Reiki energy healing services along with coaching services ( www.slickvick.com ). My brand “Slick Vick” is all about finding your joy in life and being YOU! I have combined my love of jiujitsu, mental health, humor, and spirituality to bring a plethora of content to my followers in hopes that it connects and inspires/motivates them in their own lives to be happier than they were yesterday.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I moved to Tampa again for the second time and was pursuing my now goal
of content creator and coach, I was given another job opportunity that fell through. With this happening, I was out of a back up source of income and had to live out of a storage unit and my sisters house to find work. I couldn’t get an apartment because the cost was too high and needed a job fast. I got one and started working right away but it was not fulfilling. Even though I had a job for a place to live now, it was draining me and didn’t give me the time I needed to actually do what I had came to Florida to do! So I took another risk of quitting that job, moving into a small space with my boyfriend and his two children and at the time two dogs. We are still living here but with us splitting expenses, I’m able to afford living here, training jiujitsu when I want, having coaching clients, spiritual clients, collaborating with businesses, and create my own content on my own terms! It wasn’t what I thought it would be when I moved here but I made adjustments and shifted to create a reality that works! And it’ll keep getting better every day I stay true to myself and my goals.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
A short story of how I built my audience was when I connected on a spiritual level but also a demographic level. I’m 36 and since I was born in the late 80s, and had siblings older and younger, I had a lot of exposure to a time period where now I can appeal to the 70 year olds and the 30 year olds alike. So I would and still create content that crosses a long road of different styles, time periods, eras, and memories. This allows me to connect to a larger audience.
I would say the biggest way to grow your social media and audience is to be consistent in content creation and connection! Also figuring out what your audience is coming to you for. This is and always will be something I ask my audience from time to time. “Why are you here ? Why do you watch me? How can I serve you? What content are you wishing to see more of?” These direct questions will lead you on a creation path that makes your audience lock in, satisfied, and felt seen and heard. Connecting with your followers through interactions on social media also creates a sense of community and reminds them that you too are human and real!
