We recently connected with Victoria Griffin and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
I was doing potential client interviews when I started my styling business, similar to market research. I would reach out to women that fit my ideal client and ask them questions to find out what they need from a personal stylist. Through asking those questions, the person I interviewed realized she needed my services and hired me right on the spot.

Victoria , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Vicky, short for Victoria. I am a wife, mom, and owner of Vicky G Styling. I call myself a style confidence coach and not just a personal stylist because I do much more for my clients than dressing them for those special moments in their lives. I like to say that I help my client unleash their confidence through style.
I started my styling business a year after unexpectedly losing my twin brother. That moment in my life made me realize that you don’t have forever to go after your dream. I will say that I’ve taken the safe route in life, going to college, graduating, and getting a job in your field, but I wasn’t happy. Shortly after his passing, I quit my job because his death took a toll on my mental health, and my job frankly didn’t care. So at the moment, I prioritized my mental health and healing. I never intended to start a business after I quit my job. Still, after about six months, I decided to start a clothing boutique business which later transitioned into a styling business.
Many of my clients can make decisions in about every other area of their lives but their style. Many of the women who come to work with me are killing it within their careers but are struggling to translate that confidence they have in their careers into their style. I help my client by taking the guesswork out of what they should wear in the different roles they play in their lives. These women don’t have a clue as to what their signature style is, so we go through the process of developing their style based on who they are, their life and career goals, and their body shape. I also help them to organize their wardrobe so that getting dressed can take less time and be more enjoyable. I help women so busy winning in their careers that they don’t have the time to worry about clothes; they trust me to ensure they look their best and reflect the next-level version of themselves.
What sets me apart is I will dig deep into the limiting belief that stops my client from showing up as the next-level version of themselves. I coach my client through the style transformation process so that as they evolve through life, they don’t have to rely on me to evolve their wardrobe. They would only need me for those special events or moments in their lives.
I am most proud of pushing through adversity. The hardest part about owning your own business is the mental battles, and often you are fighting these battles alone, but I am proud that I didn’t allow these battles to make me quit on my dream.
I want people to know that my brand is committed to seeing their style transformation through to the end. I will not allow my client to give up on themselves with life and work gets busy. I want potential clients to know they can trust me and that I have their best interests at heart. I don’t do this for the money. I am passionate about seeing women look fabulous while winning in every area of their life.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started my entrepreneur journey, I started with an online plus-size boutique. Now that I look back on it, I rushed to start this business because my identity and self-worth were tied to my ability to make money. Six months before starting my business, I quit my job. I gave myself a six-month deadline to figure out what I wanted to do, or I had to go back to work. I knew I didn’t want to return to work, so I started this online boutique. There were so many things that I didn’t know about running an online boutique, and it showed. The biggest thing I was missing was the money to buy inventory, so I shut down the business after six months. During that time, I was working with a boutique coach who advised me that I needed a service-based business to fund the boutique. So, I took an interest in styling, which was when I transitioned from an online boutique to a personal styling business.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, Coaches. Working with a coach saved me so much time and money.
