Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victoria Figueroa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
As a fashion major attending Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), I’ve had the opportunity to complete numerous projects and have too many favorites to count! One meaningful project that ties in with my fashion knowledge and has a significant value to my persona would be my conceptual collection called “Calle Havana.”
Creating a fashion collection inspired by Cuba was an exciting and meaningful project. For my spring quarter in 2023, I have collected research for my fashion concept class about Cuba, where my family is from. I selected this topic because Cuba’s culture and family history have inspired me to share this with the rest of my community. I researched Cuba’s political history, architecture, fashion, and other noteworthy aspects of my heritage. Until today, I’m continuing research and development as I head into my senior year of college and will have to market and sew a runway collection. It brings me so much passion and joy to produce something meaningful for my family and me. Creating something beautiful and inspiring to show other fashion enthusiasts makes me smile daily in every class and presentation. Some of the images you see will showcase my illustrations and design ideas that Cuba influenced. This doesn’t include all of my process boards and in-depth research.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sewing, illustrating, creating, and learning. From a young age, I have been captivated by these transformative qualities and had to share them with the rest of the world. Over the years, growing up with influential people in fashion like movie stars and my mom, my love for fashion and designing grew…
I am Victoria Figueroa, a rising senior majoring in fashion design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Being from Miami, I enjoy familiarizing myself with fashion. From trends and aesthetics to different cultures, I loved what fashion offered. I watched how people revealed their personalities through their fashion choices. Surrounding them with luxurious and unique styles made me want to relive that fantasy.
I began my fashion journey in Theatre, developing my passion for creating garments through costumes. I won awards from theatre competitions like the One Act Thespian Competition and Florida Theatre Conference. I then continued my fashion design education at The Institute of Fashion in Coral Gables, Florida.
With these incredible experiences, I wanted to share my knowledge of clothing and fashion lifestyle with the rest of my community, which led to the birth of my Instagram fashion blog, “@Fashionably_Victorious.” After three years of sharing my love for clothing, I was featured in different magazines and am being welcomed back into Canvas Rebel’s fantastic team
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
As previously mentioned, the Savannah College of Art and Design has enhanced my hands-on capabilities, especially in the digital world! I wish I knew more about computer-aided design, as it is my hobby to digitally create! Thanks to my school and the experience the staff provides, I’m now Photoshop certified and know additional programs like Illustrator, computer-aided design, and other various programs. Furthermore, I recently finished a course called CLO program. This 3D fashion design software digitally creates patterns and sews to see what my designs resemble before physically sewing them. All of these programs have been a lifesaver and aided me throughout school! They are helpful to know if you want to head into the fashion or any digital industry.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’m so thankful to show my work and fashion content to such a loving audience! Fashionably, Victorious began in my senior year of high school. I wanted a space to write about my style and showcase ways to help my audience’s closet. One of the critical tricks to captivating an audience is teaching them new things! People are always hungry for knowledge, and by visually showing them tips, tricks, and ideas, they become captivated to try them themselves! Building genuine connections with my followers was crucial, as I valued their support and feedback. As a result, my audience grew steadily over time.
Additionally, I looked at this opportunity as an entrepreneur portfolio. That was displaying high-quality content that resonated with my fashion followers. I don’t use too much “fancy equipment”; all you need is an iPhone, and you are ready to create a whole new world! I still use my phone to create content, and it’s the easiest thing! If you ever get “content block,” don’t be afraid to look to others for inspiration. I love commenting, connecting with other bloggers like me, and exploring my feed to try new up-and-coming trends. That is how I keep Fashionably Victorious staying fresh and on top! Moreover, use every aspect of your life that you can! In my case, I attend school for fashion and love to express my passion for it through my Instagram; having fun is crucial for a positive platform for you and your audience.
