We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria Dorcilien a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Victoria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The biggest life changing risk and leap of faith I’ve taken was making the decision to transition from working as an employee to working as a full-time entrepreneur. I reached a place where I was unhappy with the job I was working at the time and did not want to carry that feeling forever. It was time for a change. I started my wig business in the fall of 2020 and by faith I left my job in the beginning of 2021. My business has been successful since and looking back, I do not regret my decision. I am proud to have taken that step towards the future that I desire.

Victoria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Victoria Dorcilien and I am the owner of Le Charme Wig Collection. I am a master wig maker and enthusiast located in Miami, FL. Le Charme is a brand beautifying and glamorizing women all around with a custom crown, perfectly fit for a queen. We are your one stop wig shop for all your wigs necessities. My brand offers custom wig making services, designed to perfectly fit the head of all clients and customers. All wigs come customized and ready to wear, saving one time when it comes to styling and installing their own wig.
I originally began my wig making journey in 2016. I didn’t have the luxury of being in and out of the salon to get my hair done. I was in college, and unemployed. With my creative mind, I decided to get into wig making, it was super convenient, versatile, cost effective, and protective for my natural hair. As years went by, I realized I had a gift in wig making and decided to jump start my business in 2020.
One of the key components I have learned throughout this journey is that customer service is important for the success and longevity of one’s business. I make it my duty to go above and beyond with every single customer/client of mine. I’ve services those who are both experienced and inexperienced with wearing wigs. I breakdown all of my services to where we reach and sense of comprehension and understand. It is very important to be patient and understand that we all do not have the same level of understanding. I love serving my beginners and walking them throughout the process of me completing my services for them. I believe that my stellar hospitality is what sets me apart from others.
I would like for all of my customers to know that there’s nothing that’s more fulfilling than utilizing my gift, talent, and skills to be of service to them. It’s a gratifying feeling in the end when all of my hard work and efforts are valued and appreciated by my customers. Their smile and satisfaction is what keeps me motivated.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One of the biggest challenges when starting a business from the ground up is building your clientele and audience base. I knew it would be tough but I persevered. With the help of Facebook groups and paid advertisements, I promoted my business on my Facebook as well as my Instagram each and every day. One of the major ways I built my clientele was through direct messaging. I figured liking potential customer’s photos and following simply wasn’t enough. I wanted to make it personal. So I personally introduced myself and my brand by individually messaging strangers from all around. I even sent out emails if their emails were commented to their page. Slowly but surely the following grew and my business grew.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes! Wig making was initially a side hustle for me, but God gave me a vision that was bigger than just being a side hustle. My clientele grew, my following grew on social media. I realized I was given a purpose to service women in the beauty industry. From there, I scaled my business, took a leap of faith, left my day job, and I am now a full-time wig maker with other projects to come in the near future.
