We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria Castellano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I got into massage specifically to help people who are in chronic pain and reduction of mobility. I went to school for injury rehab and do mainly focus area work. there is something to instant gratification that I love and seeing my clients achieve relief and mobility is truly something I am grateful for.
Victoria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Victoria R Castellano, I am a wife a mother and a hispanic denver native. I have been practicing massage for 20 years. I don’t want to sound cliché but I got into massage at a very early age, massaging my mother and other family members. I really found a fascination with the anatomy and physiology behind massage and tying the proper techniques in order to alleviate the pain that people are riddled with. I went to the center of advanced therapeutics (CAT) located on south broadway which is currently closed. CAT was a school mainly focused on injury rehab. I started off in my massage career by working with a chiropractor then moving on to working in the spa world where I wore many hats within the company from performing massage to working the front desk and also being a manager at a busy successful spa. Working in the spa world I found a second love in esthetics from the product knowledge to the chemistry behind it so I decided to go to school for it at Emily Griffith technical college and got my esthetician license in 2014. I love doing both massage and esthetics but there is definitely something in the instant gratification I get from helping someone who has been in chronic pain and has very little range of motion to relieving that pain even if slightly and providing a better range of motion leading to a better way of life. I have had clients for over 15 plus years who have followed me through my journey of finding my place. to date I am currently the proud female hispanic owner of my own business Frixtion Spa located in Nurture a wellcare marketplace. There are definitely pros and cons ups and downs to having your own business and I am confident that I made the right decision until now to open my own business I needed the trials and tribulations of each employment that I have had to make sure I myself am making good business decisions. I decided to use image products for Frixtion because of the results I get from them they are anti aging, exfoliating and moisturizing. I use massage cream for massage which is very moisturizing and has added nutrients. I provide a wide range of services from massage to facials to body wraps, body scrubs, waxing and lash and brow tint. I am proud to have something like this to pass on to my children and also proud of myself for showing them my hard work and dedication.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of receiving new clients for me has been networking early on. I reached out to providers in my area and offered them a free or discounted service in order to share my techniques with them so they have and idea of the type of work I do and also who the ideal referral candidate is for me, in turn they usually do the same for me and we then build or referral alliance.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The way I was able to get the initial capital for my business was actually my clients. I told them exactly the amount I needed and how much service I needed to obtain in order to save enough to open my business and they themselves booked for service and also encouraged friends and family to book with me. so the loyalty and word of mouth of my clients. I had to create a business plan and also a budget plan.
