We recently connected with Victoria Alario and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My career and personality are entirely intertwined, and so my work has been a very natural and seamless transition that went along with each season of my life. I’ve always been a confident person, and I’ve always been the friend who was honest and real, which led to being the go-to girl for advice. The idea of starting a podcast or feeling called to do work that is in service of others was always a part of me, so it wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ these things would happen, just a matter of ‘when’ and ‘how”. I initially began a career on social media through fashion and beauty, but that wasn’t necessarily what built my audience or brand. The things I said always weighed more heavily on my community than what I was wearing or what products I was using. The more I shared my opinions and beliefs, words of advice, and words of encouragement, the more they were requested, and it made perfect sense to start a podcast to give my community what they wanted. I had a little saying of “every day is for the girls” all the way back since 2017 and it always stuck with me… so For The Girls podcast was born in 2020, and it felt so true to me. Throughout this time, I was also doing business coaching and helping girls build their careers on social media, but at the focal point of almost all of my coaching was always CONFIDENCE. Afraid to post? Confidence. Fear of judgement? Confidence. Stuck on where to start? The answer to every problem was always confidence. So at the same time, I was teaching so much on confidence through business coaching, as well as through For The Girls podcast. I knew the natural next step would be to take on confidence coaching, which I began in 2021. I felt so aligned with this type of work that I stopped business coaching altogether in 2022, focused on only For The Girls podcast and confidence coaching, and it was like everything just made perfect sense. I fell in love with my work all over again. My listeners turned into clients. My content transitioned from business and hustle culture to big sister vibes. Since then, I went from starting with only 1:1 coaching, to launching a group coaching program, to now creating a digital program of my signature Queens of Confidence course, which was all just a matter of yet another seamless transition. When I maxed out with how many 1:1 clients I can take at a time, I knew I had to find a way to serve more clients with my time and opened up a program to create a closer-knit community working together at once, and when I realized how many more lives can change by turning it digital and removing the weekly commitments, I created the self-paced version for my audience to do all on their own time. It’s some of my proudest work and what I love most of all about it, is that it always felt like a natural progression every step of the way.
Victoria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Victoria, Confidence Coach and host of For The Girls podcast! Everything I do is ultimately created to help women boost their confidence and step into their dream version of themselves. It’s all for the girls who want more in life and are ready to start asking for it. Through my work, women learn how to raise the bar, stop settling for the bare minimum, and start believing they can have it all– higher standards, abundance, success, deeper self love + care, and a stronger mindset. My podcast covers topics from dating and relationships, to entrepreneurship and work ethic, to friendships, self reflection and everyday life advice for listeners through the ‘Dear Victoria’ segment. You’ll also find a wide variety of diverse guests that come from all different backgrounds and lifestyles with all different careers, skills and expertise. In my Queens of Confidence digital coaching program, I cover eight weeks worth of topics including (but not limited to) external validation, feminine and masculine energy, communication skills, self doubt and limiting beliefs, understanding your needs, attracting everything you want, daily habits, mindful living, and so much more. You can always find my diving into all of this on my social media channels as well @victoria.alario where I talk much more candidly and off-the-cuff!
What I believe sets my work apart from others is you won’t receive my messages wrapped up in a pretty little bow, because I don’t do cookie cutter or sugarcoating. I like my audience to think of me as their honest big sister, and sometimes your big sister gives you tough love. I want my audience to see RESULTS, I want their lives to change in every way they possibly wish that it would, and I know they won’t get there by hearing a watered-down version of the truth. My goal is always to be as comforting as possible while being as a honest as possible, because I’m ultimately here to help you. In order to do my job right, I have to tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. But through it all, I always ensure my corner of the world is a safe space for women to feel able to express themselves and feel supported. A lot of coaches out there hope to keep their clients forever, and I’m the opposite. I want my clients to ‘graduate’ and no longer need my services as a result of how much they’ve learned and grown from working with me. That’s when I know we’ve done all that we needed to do during our time together.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I originally launched my blog, In Fashion We Trust, in 2015 and began creating content around my style and outfit finds. Social media has changed so much since then, so back during those years there was mostly only photo and writing content, with the exception of long-form content on YouTube (which I also tried to dabble in). Instagram didn’t even have stories yet! I started connected with my audience through fashion and beauty, but fast forward a few years once we could start posting content through short-form video content like stories and IGTVs, I start sharing more of my true personality which was outspoken, honest, encouraging, and I always gave advice whether it be on business or just general mindset tips and self esteem boosting. That was when I really started to cultivate a community and finding my like-minded audience who resonated with what I was saying. Over the years I shifted out of fashion and beauty altogether and focused more on personal development type of content that felt true to me, because I was now creating from the heart and following my soul’s calling rather than doing what I felt I had to do simply because it’s what I originally started building my brand on. Once I feel a disconnect from something, it’s impossible for me to continue giving energy to it. And I truly believe an audience can sense that, and they’ll start to disconnect from you, too. I was a little late to the game on TikTok and started creating content there in 2022, but that was a huge game changer for me even despite being behind on the trend. (I had NO idea what TikTok was really all about.) Getting to share your personality, interests, knowledge, lifestyle, advice, sense of humor and everything in between to a wider audience has proven to be such a blessing. There is absolutely no benefit to holding yourself back – you have nothing to lose by just going for it and you have so much to gain. A lot of people have the mindset of ‘I’m too late,’ but I could’ve felt the same way and I’m so glad I didn’t. I started sharing some different content from what I was used to on Instagram, which is much more curated, because TikTok felt so much more personable and real. It’s seeing your life without a filter or an aesthetic. It’s sharing your worst date stories, or getting ready for a date on a Friday night, and updating your audience along the way on what’s currently happening. I have my first 3 dates with my now-boyfriend documented and so many of my followers have been with me since then. They loved being a part of that world, and watching me get ready and choosing my outfits and seeing me go from dating fail after fail to falling in love. So much has changed since I started sharing in 2022, but I’ve shared it all and try my best to make sure my audience always knows who I am through every season. I truly believe transparency and letting your audience in is the perfect recipe to finding success on social media and building your personal brand and your community.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency has got to be the #1 thing to help with this. Through every season of my life, I’ve been preaching the same values and concepts, and through showcasing my lifestyle in my content, I’ve proven that I don’t just talk the talk, I walk the walk. A lot of people talk about all different things, but either change up their content, or don’t revert back to what they were once passionate about, or just ultimately don’t have anything to show for what they speak about. For me, for example, I make a lot of content around having high standards in dating and relationships since this goes hand in hand with confidence. I was always posting videos when I was single, talking about my dating experience, what I refused to settle for, what I wanted in a partner, all different dating stories (both good and bad) and made my standards and desires clear. Fast forward over the years, I’m now in the exact relationship I once made clear I was looking for, and my followers tell me how inspiring it is to see. They tell me how impactful it is to see me finally have everything I said I wanted and that I stayed true to myself and my word. It helps your audience to know that you’re truly a woman of your word and that you’re consistent in what you tell them you care about!
