We recently connected with Victor Merrell and have shared our conversation below.
Victor, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on musically is my first project entitled, ” Patchwerk “. I wrote, produced, and recorded this project during the second year of the pandemic. I was working 14 hours a day at Fed ex, stressed in every way possible. I could feel my mental health slipping and I needed an outlet to get my vocal frustration out. This project addresses social accountability, cultural focus, and mental wellness.
As far as media, 6Shot is a project that’s currently underway. This project covers a young, black man that suffers from a bi-polar disorder known as ,”psychosis”. I’ve been pulled in the direction of mental health and being of the best assistance I can.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always been a nomad in the world of arts. I travel from visual art to music, to literary art, to media. I’m not inspired by wealth but I do want to build a legacy that can be passed on. I’m not inspired by fame but I want the world to experience how I process the world. I’m originally from Montgomery, Alabama. I’m 47 years old and love where I’m at in life. How I got here was by walking through life and enjoying the beauty and cruelty of life. I liked activities where I could express myself by myself. I’m a team player but I had to develop alone so I didn’t like team activities to much. So, through art class in high school I developed my talent for visual art. In my room during high school I developed my talent for rhyming and storytelling. I didn’t wake up one morning and say I want to be this or that, I just found different interest time to time that I could use to develop myself as I journeyed through life.
I’m currently a partner at Green House Filmz in Atlanta, Ga. We are an Independent film company that is developing our portfolio in order to gain better positioning. We provide filming, photography, and editing services for anybody in need who has a project they want to bring to life.
As an artist I go by ,”Bishop Dunaway”. I’m not trying to break into the industry or anything, but I do have something to say in a creative manner that I think could help some people out in their day to day struggles.
I think what I’ve witnessed in my life time, along with various conversations and employment opportunities I’ve had; gives me the ability to create relatable content that has entertainment value. I’m most proud of never giving up even when I felt like giving in. I had to learn when to fight and swim and when to float, because at the end of the day it’s a process and one that can’t be dictated to or rushed.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Green House Filmz first full-length feature, Codez was budgeted for 2 months of filming and 2 months of editing. It ended taking 4 1/2 months of filming. Filming went from August to November, which means we had to deal with temp changes, scheduling conflicts, and production issues. The plan we had put into place still needed to refined several times then reevaluated and changed again once we got to editing. Not to mention we were filming at the time with one cinematic camera. The amount of dedication the cast and crew showed was inspiring. It’s also one of the major factors that got us through and allowed us to finish even though we were grossly over budget. Now we get to the editing room. This process was a 2 man effort that took over a year to complete. This time was well spent classroom time and fundamental understanding. I was able to point out things we needed to correct or change as a company if we wanted to be successful putting out content. It also was a good team building excercise because I was able to get abetter understanding of my editor/ cinematographer and discuss what best business practices to put in place.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’m still not well versed in NFTs but I see the potential to expand the arts and entertainment in ways we still aren’t aware of.
