We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Victor Elmurr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Victor below.
Alright, Victor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Multiple defining moments (Ha)
As a sophomore in high school I was pursuing a college football scholarship which meant pushing myself both on and off the field which included the weigh room. Over time, I was pushing more weight than I could maintain proper form with which lead to breaking the lowest part of my back. I avoided surgery and after landing an internship at a local training facility, I ended up finding relief from a local massage therapist who did extremely deep tissue work, it was painful but gave me about 70% relief in 1 visit. This led me to massage school which turned into chiropractic college because my massage license allowed me to take continuing education courses. It was during one course while listening to a local chiropractor give a presentation on how much our breath affects our posture, mobility and movement patterns that I firmly made the decision to attend chiropractic college and not look back. It both made a ton of sense and lit me up to pursue learning more about holistic ways of helping the body function at its best and 8 years later, still having the breath at the center of how I think about human movement.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What I provide / solve: Getting people out of pain is the first step in what I provide clients. Ultimately, I pride myself in getting people back to what they love to do without feeling inhibited by their aches or pains. My style of chiropractic is much more gentle and calming to the body than traditional adjustments alone. I use soft tissue, breathing and other rehabilitation techniques to relax clients’ bodies before performing an adjustment which always makes the adjustment much more comfortable and the relief longer lasting for people. This leads to postural changes, easier movement and feeling more able to take life on physically.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Understanding patients on multiple levels. You have to understand that patients don’t have the same education as us so the way we speak to them is very different than our peers so that we can connect with them and continue to help them. It’s very easy to get stuck at the level of communicating how we were taught as opposed to meeting people where they are. Understanding patients are humans with busy lives outside of the clinic so they don’t always want to or remember to do more homework in the form of corrective exercises. Understand their journey to how they got into our office – how long did they deal with pain? Did they get used to it? What is it ultimately stopping them from doing or enjoying?

Do you think you’d choose the same profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes without question. I enjoy helping people move better and have less pain. It’s incredible how life changing it is whether the person has been dealing with the issue for a few days or for 10 years and unfortunately got used to living with pain, not to mention how rewarding it is to help people get back to doing the things they love to do.
