We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victor Awosanya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Victor, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I have always been a creative person with a passion for photography. While I prefer to be behind the camera, capturing images that elicit positive reactions from people has always been a source of joy for me. A few years ago, my friend introduced me to the portrait mode feature on our iPhones, and I was immediately drawn to the potential of creating stunning photographs. I knew what I could create with photography and the stories i could tell and speak off with photos. However, I did not take phone photography seriously until I bought my first camera on the 15 December 2022, after working various jobs, such as Covid testing, to earn the necessary funds.
I began to improve my skills by watching YouTube videos on street photography, drawing inspiration from my brother’s previous photographs, and going out to take photographs. After a few months, I started to receive requests for photoshoots, build connections. which helped me to become more confident in my abilities. I continue to improve my skills and take on new challenges as I pursue my passion for photography.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Victor Wale Awosanya, and I am a self-taught photographer. I have always had a passion for portrait photography and capturing moments that evoke emotions in people. I started by teaching myself the basics of photography and honing my skills through practice and experimentation.
I have worked hard to develop my own unique style, and I primarily Specify in portrait photography. My clients rely on me to get the job, look for locations for the shoots, make them feel more relaxed and edit and send back as much photos I can which is what also sets me apart from others in the industry. My creativity and my ability to capture the essence of my subjects are drawn to others. I believe that photography is an art form, and I am constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
I am most proud of being able to teach myself photography. Most people go through colleges and universities but I had none of those and also taught myself what i am capable of today. I am excited about the future of my photography. I want potential clients/followers/fans to know that I am passionate about photography, and I am committed to making a positive impact on the world through my work. I believe that being able bring out the happiness and joy is mostly important, and I am dedicated to bringing these beliefs to life through my photography.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of meeting and building clients would be through social media like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. Showcasing your work and building your profile correctly would not just allow others to see what you’re capable off but to allow future clients to email you for shoots
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is a powerful tool for photographers and other business to showcase their work and connect with potential clients. By building a strong online presence on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, you can reach a wider audience and attract clients who are interested in your work.
To build your profile correctly, you should focus on creating high-quality content that showcases your skills and style. This could include sharing your best work, behind-the-scenes footage of your shoots, and tips and tricks for aspiring photographers.
