We caught up with the brilliant and insightful VickKnew Zeus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, VickKnew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Creating my manga ( Project Bruja) came from the cries of women/black women begging to see more stories of women as the protagonist taking the role of a witch or any mythical creatures. I fell in love with that ideal and created my main character Oni who is a witch. But to tell the right story, I had to make sure it was simple and easy for manga fans to get into.

As for Project Orange, it came from a dark place in my life and around when a famous rapper named King Von died. It was a tragic moment in history that inspired me to write a story around a character who has lost so much and find a way to deal with that hate. I cannot wait to reveal the name of this movie soon, later in winter 2022.

VickKnew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My brother Robert is an actor who slowly starred in movies, tv shows, and commercials; he started networking and meeting directors and producers. One day Robert introduced me to a director name Gerald Lee who read my script ( Project Orange), and the rest was history.

What sets me apart, in my opinion, is I try to figure out what the world wants to see in movies and entertainment in general. People need new even if they don’t want them. Movie fans, for example, have been complaining about seeing too many remakes and stories that have been done before. So my challenge is to make stories that are different so much that no one has seen before.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

Accept failure and learn from it. For a million no’s. There are twenty yes’ waiting for you.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

My tik tok. I hit 17k( still growing), and that made Hollywood investors say. Hey, this guy is good at telling stories. Let’s give him a chance to put it on paper ( laughs)
