We were lucky to catch up with Vicki Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Vicki, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was literally born into the world of creative works or medicine. My grandmother who raised me from the age of two, was a noted Poet with accolades, and she had me on blankets under the oak trees at home in Texas rhyming words at about four years old. Writing and creative arts were passed down through the generations in our family. Everything from Singing, Writing Poetry, Dancing, Acting, Performing, etc.; always lead me back to the pin.
Vicki, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised a Texan. I have lived and worked all over the USA and abroad. As an active member of the film and music industry collectively for 30+ years, my career began as a Public Relations Specialist in 1981 with various political, entertainment, and corporate credits to my name. I toured back in the 80’s with National Recording Artists and Public Figures, as well as maintaining my status as a songwriter, poet, and speech writer. I eventually joined the IATSE 600 International Camera Guild as an accomplished Senior Publicist. However, my first love has always been the music. Over the years, I have gained reputable business relations and clients that have been with me since the 80’s.
To date, I’ve been actively pursuing my works in the recording studio and have gained a catalog of mastered songs that are being reviewed for placement, release and performance. I have cultivated working relations with noted producers, recording artists, writers and collaborators to find my place in the creative forum I love. When I am not writing, co-writing, or collaborating, I also use my skill set as a Senior Publicist to represent my clients. I am blessed to have a variety of creative clients and entertainment based projects under my personal admiration and credit. I am grateful for all the memories as well as the future endeavors ahead.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
In my perspective, music is the panacea for the ill’s of the world. Relating it to a spiritual aspect, it can provide just about every emotion in man imaginable. To be able to create music and collaborate with other like-minded souls, I just couldn’t imagine life without this art form! As a believer in God, He gets all the praise and glory.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have several goals driving my creative journey in general, but honestly speaking, the most satisfying and memorable aspects for me are the lives I touch and the memories that I have created along the way. Creative people are dreamers and storytellers….they are my tribe.
