Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vicki Chambers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Vicki thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
After working since the age of 18, I decided it was time to retire at age 62. I didn’t realize after such a busy life, how difficult it would actually be to put on the brakes and relax. So when a friend asked me if I would be interested in pet sitting for her, I jumped at the chance. That was when I realized what a perfect job that would be for a retiree! What I didn’t realize was how bad the need was.
That was when I decided to file the paperwork and start my own business! The first time I was contacted by someone through my website, it was quite a rush! I couldn’t believe that my idea had taken off and had the potential to be very successful! The first great review and referral is very self-affirming as well. You realize that you love what you do and other people love how you do it!
Vicki, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a sole owner and employee, I had to learn about all aspects of running a business. Taxes, insurance, marketing, bookkeeping. Things I never expected to be learning at 62!
As a pet/house sitter, I go to a client’s home to make sure their furbabies are safe and happy while they are away. I walk, feed and play with the dogs. Cats get fed, played with and litter boxes cleaned. I bring in mail, take out garbage, water plants.
I pride myself on my ability to access situations and reach solve issues with maturity and experience.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I have a Facebook page for my business where I share photos and stories from my sits. I’ve found that my clients love seeing their furbabies on the page. They also all have my contact information and know that I am accessible at any time. I have played games on my page where folks can win a t-shirt featuring my business.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Happy clients are the best way to build a business! My clients are always happy to leave reviews on my Facebook page and refer their friends and family to me. Happy clients make a business successful.
