We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vice Souletric a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Vice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to be a creative ever since I was a child. I would always grab tape, recorders and create my own little stories and interview my brother and/or parents even after bad days. Lol I just like hearing my own voice I guess. I like creating my own world through my imagination. It’s something that I’ve always done.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always been a freelance creative, but I would say that I officially got into the music industry in 2017. That’s when I met Isaac Gordon. He took me on and became my manager as an artist. This relationship led to me becoming an actual booking agent under his new company Breakpoint Booking.
Not only did I go on my first national tour, but I learned so much about the ins and outs of the game and different ways to make money within it besides, just being an artist.
I am also a graphic designer, so several of the relationships that I’ve been able to create in the music industry have fostered in that regard.
Whether being an artist myself, helping out other artists with bookings or working with creative teams as a graphic designer, I have learned that integrity, promptness and dependability are all necessary qualities needed to be successful, and to gain more clients.
I’m most proud of the fact that I gain clients mainly through word of mouth. This is a sign that the work that I have done is quality and people appreciate it enough to share my name and recommend me to somebody who they trust and also trust them.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are several stories I could tell that would be a great example of the resilience I’ve had to build up over the years.
In 2017, I had got booked for a big event in Cleveland. Well, at least I thought I did ha ha. I was actually scammed out of a small amount of money from someone claiming to be the talent buyer for a big concert in the city. Once I realize I was ripped off, I decided to never book a show for myself again. I literally looked up and contacted every single booking agent in the music industry. Hundreds if not thousands of emails were sent out. Luckily a few hit me back, one being Isaac Gordon, who I mentioned earlier.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to help out as many talented, creatives as possible. Even as an agent, I find myself only wanting to work with, and gravitate towards artists, who I truly believe are talented and need that extra push and opportunity. No matter how big of a star or how new of an artist.
As an artist myself, I will continue to create music and art as long as I have the passion in me. It’s never been about money or fame, I’ve just always wanted people to feel something when they heard my music. If art does not stir up any kind of emotion in the person experiencing it, then it’s not doing your job.
