Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vibe Jonez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Vibe , thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned and developed my vocals officially around 2015. I’ve always enjoyed music and I would sing to myself at home in my living room when my parents weren’t around, but when it got to a point where all I could think about was performing and sharing apart of myself, the trajectory of how often I practiced increased.
A good amount of my skills have been innate; truly feeling the music and allowing it to carry me through the story it’s telling. The remainder lies in being patient with developing my voice, consistently practicing, endless vocal warm-ups, and genuinely enjoying the moment.
The most essential skills lies within the practicing patience, giving myself grace because I know my potential is so great but I still have more to learn, being consistent, and having the mental fortitude.
In the Information Age, we have so many resources to turn to with the Internet being so easily accessible for vocal instruction, so the only person standing in my way would be me. However I do feel that time can be an issue when you’re energy has to be siphoned for the sake of survival.
And some opportunities can be gained or lost when you’re grappling with your current life and working towards manifesting your dream within those 24 hrs.
Vibe , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yes, I’m a singer/songwriter/vocalist/ entrepreneur from New Jersey. I grew up in a suburban/urban environment. I had the best of both worlds. The calm residential life but there was a taste of the city energy in the air. Local and express buses always traveling in out of the city & through my town. The style, music, culture outside and inside of my home impacted me & my music deeply.
I started writing music when I got bored of writing longhanded style in my journal. Plus I subconsciously yearned to sing. It was taking too long to get my points across and then it transformed into more of a rhyme scheme over time.
My creative work is a service to my peers, to my community, especially to people of color. Initially I used it as a tool for therapy then realized my art and voice isn’t just for me alone to benefit from.
I needed somewhere to release my thoughts but also be accountable of my words. Words are super powerful especially when intentional.
So I would say that I’m definitely proud of the love, intention, and respect I put into my music. When something’s made with love and integrity; you feel it. I’m constantly evolving with my sound and that’s what keeps me and I hope the listeners on their toes. I want it to be a different experience every time. I want people to know that music is an incredible frequency to tap into and a responsibility that I genuinely take pride in being apart of.
I want people who listen to feel inspired, to not give up on themselves, to feel emotions that reminds them what a joy trip it is to actually be human. Through all of its complexities; it’s worth being here.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to not live in mediocrity. To not back down just because it’s new and uncomfortable. I want to live an epic life. I want to travel, explore, connect, create with more people on this planet who are of like mind and want to progress their life narrative. My goal is create the life I envision and trust the process while doing so.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that ceilings exist. That there’s a “cap” on your abilities. I used to think so poorly of myself and then I switched my mindset. Low-self esteem, self-concious, timid and shy. Then I began reading self-improvement books and spoke more kindly to myself. Since then, the story has greatly changed.
