Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vetta Murdock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vetta, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I took a risk starting my business. I had never started a business before and I was scared I would fail. I realized that I needed to believe in myself and my dream.
I took two years planning how I would start my business. I saved money and made a business plan. I felt like I had everything together I just had one problem. The job I had was a traveling job and in order to start physically working on my business I had to quit my job.
I was so scared to quit because I never had to depend on myself to make money. Getting a job is an easy way to make money, but being an entrepreneur was different.
I took the risk, I quit my job and left the secured net I was in and took a chance on myself.
After quitting my job I spent a year getting my physical location together. I learned some amazing lessons early on and realized that I could depend on myself.
After a year I did get another job that matched my business needs. Taking the first risk quitting my job to set up my passion and balancing out working and being an entrepreneur is the best risk I’ve ever taken.
It taught me how to believe in myself again and that sometimes your dreams need to be nurtured to grow.
When I took that risk quitting my job I tried to rush my dream because I felt like I needed to show it was worth it. In that year my business was improving day by day but it wasn’t where I wanted it to be.
Your entrepreneur journey never stops. It’s an adventure and I’m enjoying the ride.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My main focus is to make people feel confident with themselves. I provide facials, waxing and body sculpting services.
I promote natural ways through the beauty industry to make others feel good about themselves. I thrive on building confidence in others.
My space is always safe. I have dealt with my own insecurities and I want my clients to feel comfortable with who they are through my services.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back I would of done it sooner. I wanted to be in the beauty industry since I was in the eight grade. I didn’t think I was pretty enough to be in the industry.
I tried truck driving, pharmacy technician and going to school for criminal justice before having the courage to go to esthetics school.
I wish I would of started following my dreams sooner.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I listen to a variety of different motivational speakers. From Billy Carson, Joe Dispenza, Abraham Hicks and so much more.
I also have a gratitude journal and practice how to think like a boss.
I take constant classes and trainings through LinkedIn Learning and Udemy to help my mindset.
