We recently connected with Vesi Kay and have shared our conversation below.
Vesi, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I started Travel Addicted Unicorn with a very simple but personal intention: I wanted to help millennial women feel inspired and confident enough to travel the world more. Travel had already become such a meaningful part of my life, and I kept thinking about how many people—especially women my age—were craving those experiences but didn’t always feel like travel was accessible, realistic, or something they could confidently plan for themselves.
At the same time, I didn’t want to create something that felt overdone or like just another travel blog. I wanted it to feel fun, a little unexpected, and personality-driven. That’s where the “Unicorn” came in. I liked the idea of something that stood out, didn’t take itself too seriously, and reflected the feeling of chasing unique, slightly magical experiences in the world. It made the brand feel different right from the start, and that was intentional—I didn’t want to blend in with every other travel blog out there.
The idea really started to take shape as I was building content around my own travels. I was constantly sharing tips, itineraries, and honest experiences, and I noticed that people were responding most to the parts where I broke things down simply or showed them that travel didn’t have to be perfect or complicated. There was a clear pattern: when I made travel feel more approachable, people leaned in.
That’s when I started to understand the bigger opportunity. It wasn’t just about sharing where I was going—it was about helping other women feel like they could do it too. I was already naturally creating content that answered questions, eased anxieties, and sparked ideas for trips. So it made sense to lean into that more intentionally and build Travel Addicted Unicorn as a space that did exactly that.
Logically, I knew there was room for it because I was speaking directly to a specific audience that I understood well—millennial women who love travel but are also balancing work, budgets, and real-life responsibilities. I wasn’t trying to sell a fantasy version of travel. I was showing how it actually fits into real life. And that felt important because a lot of existing travel content either felt too aspirational or too vague to be useful.
So when I decided to build Travel Addicted Unicorn more intentionally, it wasn’t a sudden leap. It was more like connecting the dots between what I was already doing, what people were already responding to, and what I knew I could consistently show up for. It felt like a natural extension of my own curiosity and experience, but with a clearer purpose behind it: to inspire more women to explore the world in a way that feels doable, exciting, and their own.

Vesi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I run Travel Addicted Unicorn, a travel blog I started to inspire millennial women to travel more confidently and more often. I got into this space pretty naturally—by sharing my own travel experiences, itineraries, and tips online and realizing how many people connected with the practical side of travel rather than just the highlight reel.
Over time, it grew into a space where I create travel guides, destination blogs, and social content that make travel feel more accessible, realistic, and fun. Alongside that, I also offer creative services through TAU Designs, where I build tools like media kits, templates, and branding resources for travel bloggers and creators who want to elevate how they present themselves to brands.
What I help solve is that gap between inspiration and action—whether that’s helping someone feel confident enough to book the trip, or helping a creator look more professional so they can land collaborations. I focus on making things simple, visual, and approachable so people don’t feel overwhelmed by either travel planning or content creation.
What sets me apart is that I’m not just creating from the outside—I’m actively in the space as a traveler and creator myself. I understand both sides: what audiences want to see and what brands actually look for.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that feels authentic and useful at the same time. Whether it’s inspiring someone to take their first solo trip or helping a creator land their first brand deal, I love knowing my work plays a small part in making those moments happen.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience pretty organically by consistently sharing real travel experiences, not just highlights. I focused on posting helpful content like itineraries, tips, and honest insights from trips, especially ones that made travel feel more achievable for millennial women. Over time, I noticed the most growth came when I stayed consistent and leaned into what people actually found useful rather than trying to be overly curated or perfect.
A big shift was also engaging more with my audience—replying to comments, answering questions, and turning those into future content ideas. That helped shape the direction of Travel Addicted Unicorn into something more community-driven.
For anyone starting out, my biggest advice is to focus on consistency over perfection and to pick a clear audience early on. Share what you’re genuinely learning or experiencing, and don’t wait until everything looks “perfect” to start posting. The growth comes from showing up regularly and building trust over time.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part is seeing your work actually connect with people in real life. Whether it’s someone booking a trip because of a guide I wrote, feeling more confident to travel alone, or a creator telling me a template helped them land a brand collaboration—it makes the work feel meaningful beyond just content or design.
There’s also something really fulfilling about turning ideas that start in your own head into something tangible that others can use or be inspired by. It’s a mix of creativity and impact that keeps evolving, and that’s what makes it so rewarding.
