We were lucky to catch up with Ves Marinova recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ves, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?

What would I change about the education system to prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?

I would start by shifting the focus from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more holistic, individualized learning experience. The traditional education system often emphasizes rote memorization and standardized testing, which doesn’t nurture the full spectrum of a student’s potential. Instead, I would advocate for a curriculum that blends practical business skills, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and personal development alongside academic subjects. By teaching students how to manage their emotions, build resilience, and connect with their purpose, we could create future leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also deeply self-aware and emotionally intelligent.

In addition, we need more emphasis on real-world skills like entrepreneurship, critical thinking, and adaptability. The world is rapidly changing, and students need to learn how to navigate uncertainty, embrace change, and build solutions. By incorporating more experiential learning, project-based assignments, and opportunities to explore different career paths, we can ensure students are better prepared for an ever-evolving job market.

My Story:

I grew up in Bulgaria, and when I moved to the United States, I was shocked to realize that subjects like math and science, which we were taught in 4th grade in Bulgaria, were only being introduced in 7th grade in the US. This experience made me realize just how differently education can be approached from one place to another, but also how much of my success in life and business came from something beyond what was taught in the classroom.

I was raised with the belief that education is the key to success. That mindset led me to pursue a PhD and two MBAs, but what I’ve learned over the years is that much of what I’ve achieved—both in life and business—wasn’t taught in school. It was self-growth, development, and the process of learning through doing. My degrees came after I had already achieved much of my success. The real lessons came from exploring my own interests, testing ideas, and embracing the hands-on experience that helped me develop the mindset and skills necessary to thrive.

This is why I believe we need an education system that fosters independent thinking, emotional intelligence, and practical skills so that future generations can not only learn but apply that knowledge to create their own paths to success.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

A significant pivot in my career came when I was in a high-level C-suite position at a privately owned, high-end organization that was downsizing. I had about six months’ notice, and while I easily could have interviewed for another role, I took that time to reflect deeply on what truly aligned with my purpose.

At first, it was scary to let go of the stability of a steady paycheck. The uncertainty of entrepreneurship can be daunting. But the key is trusting in your own capabilities. I looked back at what I had already accomplished and reminded myself that I could do anything I set out to do.

Rather than jumping into another corporate role, I realized my true calling was in combining my business expertise with my passion. This realization led me to create NexAge Media and NexAge Awakening, where I now help businesses grow and individuals align with their soul’s mission.

What I’ve also learned is that money energy flows when you’re in alignment with what you truly want to create and how you’re meant to serve. Trusting in your purpose and aligning with it is the most powerful path to success. While the transition was a leap of faith, it has been the most fulfilling decision I’ve made.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been the principle that your network is your net worth. Building strong, genuine relationships with people in my industry and community has been invaluable. I focus on creating connections and offering the highest quality service, whether it’s for clients or friends.

I also truly believe in attracting your clients rather than chasing them. Chasing clients can be stressful, misaligned, and often doesn’t bring the results you’re looking for. When you’re in alignment with your work, your values, and your purpose, the right people naturally find their way to you. This approach has allowed me to serve clients who resonate deeply with what I do, making the relationships more fulfilling and long-lasting.

Sometimes, you have to offer value without expecting anything in return, especially when you’re building momentum. This builds trust and shows your capabilities, which eventually leads to organic growth through word-of-mouth referrals and a strong reputation.
