Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Versace Vampire . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Versace , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue my passion for podcasting last year, in 2023 whenever I did my very first podcast with music artist LostinVegas and self-help guru Rod the Planter. It was such a well-rounded conversation and totally improv, which made the experience very organic in nature. The interview turned out great and I learned so much about the podcast guests. That is when I knew that it was time for me to reach out to all my musician friends back home in California and begin this podcast interview journey
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi everyone, my name is Robert, aka Versace Vampire. I have a podcast channel called Growin’ in Houston. I moved from Los Angeles, California to Houston, Texas two years ago, eventually coming up with this ideal that I wanted to document my experience of growing in Houston as a man, father, and also grow my finances into the vision I had when leaving California. A year later, Growin’ in Houston was formed. I also have a passion for growing houseplants and also outdoor plants in what was a first a learning experience, as Houston is a much different continual climate than Los Angeles, especially in the fall season, where temperatures are still hovering sometimes in the 90’s. Growin’ in Houston started off as me merely growing plants, then this idea came to me that I explained above. To answer your question about what sets me apart, I have a very different style than most podcasters when it comes to questions and method of delivery. I go for shock value and I like to ask questions that make you pause and think for a second before having the answer instantaneously come to you. I mostly podcast with musicians (my cousin Trey Christie) is in the music industry, but I also interview entrepreneurs, creative visionaries, and local community businesses. The one thing I would say I am most proud of is I am very driven and passionate about podcasting. Becoming friends with my favorite artist of all time, Mod Sun, has been such a monumental dream come true for me. Mod has a huge fan base which include other artists in the rock and hip-hop scene so things started to branch out once viewers got a good feel of my taste in music and how certain artists have had a similar impact on my lives, in unison to their lives.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Last year I experienced a very traumatic family crisis that set me back when I was just gaining momentum and “steam” as a rookie podcaster. It was very trying on my mental health and at first a learning experience. However, I powered through it and kept seeing this vision as a successful podcaster that stood out with his interview styles and quick-witted nature. Since I was a teenager, every time life got hard I always said out loud: “remain resilient.” It has been a mantra of mine and it has helped me tremendously.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly, Growin’ in Houston has always been about the fans, and aiding them in feeling further connected to the artist that they love. The artist that helped them through turbulent waters in their lives. The artist who was their lifeboat when the water got too hard to swim without some sort of aid. The artist that help them get out of bed and rise when life got both tuff, and also when life feels at its best. Growin’ in Houston is for those fans such as myself. The ultimate goal is to have at least my top 3 favorite artists to eventually appear as guests on my podcast. I feel like when that milestone moment happens, I will have accomplished everything I set out for, dream wise.
