Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Veronica, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
When it comes to project management there is a common misconception that the role is built around timelines and organization techniques. However, the fact of the matter is that the success of any project is defined by the project team, which means that project managers are in the people business. This can be quite the conundrum because project managers are not functional managers; therefore, the team they oversee does not directly report to them. This requires any individual in a project leadership role to leverage their soft skills to help expand their sphere of influence. This not only applies to interactions with project team members, but also stakeholders and sponsors. The engagement and buy-in of everyone involved in the project is the lifeblood of any successful initiative.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I graduated college, I had my eyes set on medical school. However, after a failed application cycle, I needed to transition into a field where I could leverage my natural skillset. A family member that worked in tech suggested that I pursue project management due to being inherently organized and a skilled planner. However, once I started my project management career, I realized that it was so much more than what was presented on the surface. Being a project manager is an art form that requires project leaders to strike a distinct balance between facilitating the success of the project team, engaging stakeholders, and meeting the needs of project sponsors; with communication being the foundation that supports the previously mentioned key components. As time went on I focused on honing these skills and found that success in my projects followed with relative ease, that is when I knew I had found the winning formula. As a corporate trainer and consultant, this is what ANU Consulting does differently than our competitors. We work to enhance our clients project management offices by emphasizing the importance of putting people first, and solidifying a foundation built on the winning ratio of soft and technical skills.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Currently, ANU Consulting has two different business streams. The first is a corporate training and consulting arm that focuses on business to business contracting and working with other organizations. The second is a business to consumer arm that works one-on-one with individuals to help them transition into project management roles. Our B2C model has allowed us to impact the lives of countless individuals who were looking to leverage their current background and skills into an in-demand role by enrolling in our educational training and development courses. It is easily the most rewarding component of our business model that we look to expand in the future.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building a presence on social media is a necessary component of any business. We began by solidifying our presence on instagram by posting content that we believed our B2C audience could benefit from in their journey to becoming a project manager. That has helped us grow to almost 8k followers and climbing. Right now we’re focusing on growing our presence on LinkedIn. By doing so we anticipate being able to utilize the platform to spread the message about what we can offer to potential B2B clients. Our advice to anyone who is trying to build their presence on social media is to simply focus on posting content that adds value to your audience.
