We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronica Sniscak a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica, appreciate you joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I started in Real Estate assisting my father when I was 16, in 1996 At that point I was running errands, writing ad copy and just doing general office tasks related to Real Estate. At 18 I received my Real Estate license so I could then actually assist buyers and sellers with their transactions. My father & I worked side by side for many years but it wasn’t until he and I went separate ways in the industry that I had control to scale and grow as I wanted. In 2012 I re-started my career in a way and I was able to see what needed to be done to grow which started with systems. I knew I needed a way to provide consistent high touch exceptional service to every client. Once I began to grow my business I found I needed more support in many ways. This led me to hire an assistant to help with the background systems & contracts. I then added other Real Estate agents to my team to assist with buyers and sellers. So starting as a 16-year-old office runner to leading a 50 million dollar Real Estate team has been an incredible journey! It hasn’t always been linear growth but each day I strive to provide the best service and innovate as much as possible to be at the top of our industry!

Veronica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For the first 18 years of my business, I worked on teams that did not allow any personal branding, or at least not much. As I began to develop my brand my team name became VSells! I felt this was specific enough to be connected to me but also offer a team that wasn’t ‘my name’ so other agents could back the brand with their marketing. I feel that this approach strengthens our brand overall. My logo for example is VS for VSells but VS is also my initials. I believe it all comes together in a very clean way and our logo is VS with an arrow. This symbolizes moving forward which is what we are all trying to do! We are not going backward so the arrow propels us forward which is what we are doing for our clients every day. I feel that one area of expertise I have is problem-solving. We come across new challenges each day and I feel I am an expert at handling these situations and offering solutions to our clients but also to everyone on the team. While it may not be clear just from our logo our marketing speaks to the high-quality, professionals that we are and that is how we treat our clients. I am thrilled to consistently be in the top 1% of Realtors in Maryland and I LOVE it when clients, friends, and colleagues comment on our marketing!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2019 I was the top producer for a large local Real Estate team and on their suggestion, I was beginning to build my brand and a small team within theirs. This unfortunately had many pitfalls and I felt like I couldn’t grow with the situation but I was very loyal to the team and didn’t want to leave. Going against the norm I voiced my opinions and asked for help from the team to ultimately decide what to do – the question was can you help me grow my business further on this team or should I branch out and start my own team? I was asked into the office to discuss some “ideas” and during this meeting, I was let go from the team. I had to immediately pivot and make quick decisions for my business and most importantly clients. While at the time this was a huge shock it was exactly the momentum I needed to make some big decisions. So while this was not my choice at the time it was exactly the push I needed to go out on my own. To this day it was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me even though at the time it didn’t seem that way. This started formally VSells & Associates and I have not looked back!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I have always been very aware of how my behavior can affect others in this industry and make it a point to be helpful, communicative, and nice. This sounds very basic but unfortunately, this is not always the case with other professionals. I train all agents on my team to be the same way. This simple idea helps us be known in the industry as great to work with and helps us better assist our clients because we have so many excellent relationships!
