Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Sinclair Dominique Calvillo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Veronica Sinclair, appreciate you joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Both Dominique and I make a living from our full time creative work, and have for many years. We have a wedding hair and make up company called LA Native Beauty, Where we are the lead Makeup Artist and Hairstylist. We also do hair and make up work for the entertainment industry, and Dominique has a successful crochet design business. But it was not always this way! We both started a careers at a very young age and honestly our success has come from straight grinding. From the time we were teenagers, Dominique and I have both been hustling, promoting ourselves, taking almost every gif we could at the time to gain experience and make connections. I think our commitment on our relentless drive is key to our success. If we could give her advice to her younger selves, one of the main things would be to trust your instinct
When it comes to who you’re working with. Don’t waste your time working for free with people who have nothing to offer you. It’s good to hustle and say yes to a lot, but not everything.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We own a hair and make up company for weddings and events called LA Native Beauty, and we specialize in cool brides + natural vibes. We take our experience working in the entertainment industry with celebrity + red carpet clients to the bridal world. Instead of that heavy Instagram look, we offer make up and hair that looks and feels beautiful both in person and on camera. This set us apart in the bridal world because we know how to problem solve quickly, create unique looks for our clients, and how to work with the energy and mood of the day.
We have a selection of clean and luxury Products in our kids to serve people with all different preferences when it comes to their beauty products.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
On pivoting – LA Native Beauty came about as a pivot for both of us during the writers strike in 2023. Both of us have had thriving careers in the entertainment industry which continue to this day, but the strikes and fallout for crew members showed us we had to diversify our business and revenue streams, which we did. LA Native Beauty came about as a way to offer a unique service to brides, and expand our income streams to multiple industries. This has proved to be smart and successful for us!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For us, the most rewarding part of being artists is the relationships we develop with our clients. What we do is so fun, and we feel so lucky to do it. We love getting to know people’s tastes, beauty preferences and personalities. And the hair and makeup gets better and better the more we know you!
