Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Scharf Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Veronica , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was living in South America as a kid and would visit my aunt, a great artist. She would give me magic markers and big sheets of paper. There was art in different stages of progress all over her house. It was a great environment. Her kids were making pictures on the tables, floors and everyone was doing some sort of art making.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My husband and I have had two boutiques, we carried scarves amongst other items. We now have an online business. We took much time to find our best quality of silk fiber and the best quality of printing. We use my art to make a unique design on the silk scarves and we have a beautiful quality product. This took time-to get to the best possible resources. Our web site is veronicascharf.com.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As an art maker I think exposure to art is really important, museums, galleries, public art and any way you can go and see art should be a priority. Libraries carry books of art criticism and provide collections of art and artists. Art galleries are free and its important not to feel intimidated and really go in and look at the work, even though it might seem like a “rarified” environment as people who work there may seem aloof. There are great podcasts online and great museum web sites.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Creating art can be a struggle and extremely challenging. It’s important to hold off on self criticism for later. Finish the work, make the necessary changes and then put the work aside for a while. After a day or two (or longer) take another look at it and you may have a fresh perspective.
