We recently connected with Veronica Niño and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Like many others, I do sometimes wonder how much easier it would be if I had a regular 9-5 job. It is a fleeting thought, however. I did have a regular job as an accomplished accountant before starting my business, but stability doesn’t necessarily compare to the satisfaction of having a growing list of clients. My repertoire of clients has grown thanks to the hard work that I have put into creating and capturing lasting memories for my clients. The fact that my clients are mostly from word of mouth, people that are content with my work does not compare to the ease of a ‘regular’ job. It’s incredibly satisfying to see that the time, energy, and resources used has bloomed into something lucrative albeit a bit risky and sometimes uncertain.
Veronica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
“Hello, I’m Veronica Nino, and I’d like to share with you how my journey in photography began. Photography has always been a constant presence in my life, igniting a sense of curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. I have eagerly pursued education through courses offered by renowned artists and explored various techniques to foster my growth as a photographer. The power of photography never fails to excite me.
In the early days, I started with limited resources but an unwavering dream to fulfill. I ventured to parks, offering my services for free, and eagerly participated in numerous events to gain exposure and practical experience. These opportunities not only helped me connect with clients but also allowed me to refine my skills. I am profoundly grateful to all those who supported me during my journey and contributed to my development as a photographer.
Today, my photography portfolio boasts a diverse range of offerings, with a particular focus on creatively themed sessions incorporating vibrant colored gels and special effects. I also find great joy in capturing the pure essence of newborns, as it comes naturally to me and brings immense fulfillment.
What truly fills me with pride is the recognition and trust bestowed upon me by my clients. It is an honor to be chosen as their photographer and to share in the most significant moments of their lives, be it a wedding, the birth of a child, or any other milestone. In a saturated market teeming with talented photographers, I believe it is my unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service and personal attention that sets me apart. I am dedicated to going above and beyond, consistently striving to deliver memorable experiences in every session.
Thank you for allowing me to share my passion for photography and the joy it brings to my life. I look forward to capturing many more cherished memories in the future.”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Nowadays, there are numerous photographers, and there are also people who, armed with their phones, attempt to cover events like weddings, which is entirely respectable. However, I feel that the value of professional photography has been greatly undermined due to intense competition and the struggle to survive in the field. It has become increasingly challenging to practice photography under these circumstances. I have come to the conclusion that talent alone is not enough; while it is certainly a plus, one must also know how to market oneself. In today’s world, if I am not present on social media with a specific number of followers, it’s as if I don’t exist. Merely producing good work is not sufficient if the world is unaware of it. I have learned to navigate this challenge with significant support from social media platforms and organizations such as this magazine, which enable us to aspire to stand out in an overcrowded marketplace of products and services.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
During the practice of photography, one of the most challenging periods of work was during the pandemic, as numerous photography locations were closed to the public. Moreover, the risk of direct contagion during photoshoots was incredibly discouraging. However, I made the most of the situation by taking courses and consistently practicing photography. This helped me stay motivated and determined to persevere through that difficult phase. Over time, I have seen the rewards of not giving in to the temptation of closing down, and I am grateful that those challenging times are now behind me!
